Winter Weather Briefing for Thursday February 10, 2011 Updated 600 am Wednesday February 09, 2011 National Weather Service Raleigh, NC • Probabilities for light accumulating snow are increasing across portions of central North Carolina tonight. A Winter Weather Advisory may be needed east of Highway 1.
• Winter Storm Warning in eastern/coastal NC for 2-4” accumulation. • A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Bladen/Robeson/Pender Counties.
• The best chance for 1-2” of accumulation will be along and east of the Interstate 95 corridor, with a dusting to 1” possible east of the Highway 1 corridor.
Precipitation Types and Timing • Precipitation is expected to begin between 9 pm and Midnight, ending from west to east by sunrise Thursday morning. • Precipitation is expected to fall as all snow along and north of Highway 64. • Locations in the southwest Piedmont, Sandhills and southeast Coastal Plain will see precipitation begin as rain or a rain/snow mix, transitioning to all snow after midnight.
1” Snow Accumulation Probabilities
The probability for 1” of snow accumulation is 50-70% east of the Triangle into the Coastal Plain. Probabilities fall dramatically to less than 20% in the western Piedmont.
2” Snow Accumulation Probabilities
The probability for 2” of snow accumulation is 40-60% in the Coastal Plain. Probabilities fall dramatically to less than 20% in the Triangle and points west.
4” Snow Accumulation Probabilities
The probability for 4” of snow accumulation is less than 20% and generally confined to eastern NC.
Latest NWS Raleigh Snow Accumulation Forecast for Tonight
Measurable snow will be possible generally along and east of US Highway 1. A dusting to an inch will be possible in the Triangle, with 1-2” possible along and east of Interstate 95.
