• This weekend’s schedule sees SoCon schools take on several Power 5 opponents. Samford will face a pair of SEC schools in Georgia and Auburn, while Chattanooga will host Alabama and UNCG will welcome Wake Forest on Sunday. ETSU will play at Tennessee that day. • VMI will open its home schedule on Tuesday against Hampton, a second-year program that the Keydets also faced last year. VMI scored the 17th-most points in Division I history in a 16-0 win in that game. • Freshman goalkeeper Logan Leask posted a shutout in her first career start on Sunday, snagging three saves in 90 minutes of play as The Citadel opened its season with a 2-0 win over UNC Asheville. • Western Carolina senior keeper Carly Tinstman recorded a career-high 13 saves against Charlotte on Friday. • Senior forward Malcanisha Kelley scored Samford’s first goal of the season Sunday and increased her all-time school record in goals to 29. She is the SoCon’s active career leader in goals, points (71) and game-winning goals (12). • Senior goalkeeper Jasmine Elliott became ETSU’s career leader in shutouts with 10 in a 1-0 victory over USC Upstate on Friday. • With the game-winning goal against Alabama A&M, Mercer’s Maddie Clark moved into fourth place on the school’s career game-winning goals leaderboard with a total of eight. • Furman coach Andrew Burr, the SoCon’s career leader in overall wins, earned the 150th of his career in Monday’s 8-0 victory over North Greenville.

She opened her week with a career-high eight saves in the double-overtime draw against the Jaguars, which were sitting just outside the top 25 in the preseason NSCAA poll. Peters faced 17 shots against USA. The redshirt junior from Childersburg, Ala., faced seven shots against Troy but was not forced to make a save. SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford goalkeeper Katie Peters has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Aug. 19-21 after posting a pair of shutouts in the Bulldogs’ seasonopening weekend of play. The selection is made by the league office. Samford went 1-0-1 against in-state foes to open the season, playing to a scoreless draw at South Alabama on Friday and picking up a

The 2016 Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Championship will begin with first-round games at campus sites on Oct. 26, followed by quarterfinals at campus sites on Oct. 30 and 31. • This weekend’s schedule sees SoCon schools take on several Power 5 opponents. Samford will face a pair of SEC schools in Georgia and Auburn, while Chattanooga will host Alabama and UNCG will welcome Wake Forest on Sunday. ETSU will play at Tennessee that day. • VMI will open its home schedule on Tuesday against Hampton, a second-year program that the Keydets also faced last year. VMI scored the 17th-most points in Division I history in a 16-0 win in that game. • Freshman goalkeeper Logan Leask posted a shutout in her first career start on Sunday, snagging three saves in 90 minutes of play as The Citadel opened its season with a 2-0 win over UNC Asheville. • Western Carolina senior keeper Carly Tinstman recorded a career-high 13 saves against Charlotte on Friday. • Senior forward Malcanisha Kelley scored Samford’s first goal of the season Sunday and increased her all-time school record in goals to 29. She is the SoCon’s active career leader in goals, points (71) and game-winning goals (12). • Senior goalkeeper Jasmine Elliott became ETSU’s career leader in shutouts with 10 in a 1-0 victory over USC Upstate on Friday. • With the game-winning goal against Alabama A&M, Mercer’s Maddie Clark moved into fourth place on the school’s career game-winning goals leaderboard with a total of eight. • Furman coach Andrew Burr, the SoCon’s career leader in overall wins, earned the 150th of his career in Monday’s 8-0 victory over North Greenville.

The 2016 Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Championship will begin with first-round games at campus sites on Oct. 26, followed by quarterfinals at campus sites on Oct. 30 and 31. The semifinals and final will be played Nov. 4 and 6, respectively, at ETSU’s Summers-Taylor Stadium, which will host the SoCon Women’s Soccer Championship for the first time. This year’s semis and final will be contested outside of the Carolinas for just the second time in the 23-year history of the tournament.
