Welcome YEAR 7 PARENTS’ INFORMATION EVENING

Setting 

Students will be taught in their form groups for the first few weeks of term

They will sit baseline assessments in their subjects and CATS tests during this time

This information will be combined with KS2 data to inform the setting

We will communicate via the parent newsletter when students will be placed in sets

Student progress will be reviewed after each assessment window and students may be moved up or down depending on how they are performing

Setting 

Year 7 is split into three bands based on colours from the Trinity logo e.g. Green

Within each band there are two classes i.e. G1 and G2

Subjects group for setting

Maths, Science, Computing, PE

English and everything else

This gives flexibility and allows us to place students in different classes within the same stream if we feel that is best for them

KS3 Assessment 

A mastery system based on 9 steps

Steps grid for each subject will form the basis of assessment levels

Between 4 and 6 strands – subjects decide on how many and the weighting

System will calculate an average step score for the cycle based on the step for each strand

These are NOT GCSE grades

Students will be expected to make at least 1.5 steps of progress each year

Steps will indicate the minimum expectation for KS4 e.g. a student on step 6 would expect to achieve at least a grade 6 at GCSE if they carry on that trajectory of progress
