Term 1

De compras (Shopping)

Students will learn vocabulary about shops, products sold including clothes, quantities and or sizes.

Some students will learn to use word derivation to create new words and understand words derived from others.

ICT: Create a shop advert using flash player or create a flyer with special offers for a shop.

All students will revise prepositions used to say where things are.

Some students will learn to use the impersonal “se”

All students will develop their speaking skills by taking part in conversations simulating shopping.

What is the key piece of Assessment/Rich task? PLTS: Team worker and self manager. Students will have to create a role-play involving going shopping (Food/Clothes)

Enrichment: Letters to pen-pals to introduce themselves. European Day of Languages- On 26th September year 8 and 9 Classes will receive an introductory lesson of another European language. Term 2

¿Que hiciste de vacaciones? (What did you do in your holiday?)

All students will learn to describe a past holiday they have been on. In order to do this all students will learn:

Some students will learn the past tense of some irregular verbs.

PLTS: Independent Enquirer and Creative Thinker

ICT: Create a speaking avatar describing a past holiday in Spanish.

-how to form the past tense of regular verbs in Spanish.

Some students will learn how to use interrogatives with prepositions.

-how to form questions in Spanish. -how to answer questions about a past holiday

Students will have to write a letter to a penpal describing their last holiday.

Students will develop their writing skills by learning to use complex connectives to extend their writing.

-students will revise vocabulary about transports, accommodation and free time activities. - Students will learn to describe the weather using the past tense. -how to structure a letter

Term 3

Mi Instituto (My school)

All students will learn to describe different aspects of their school life in Spanish. Students will learn: -to talk about the school facilities

ICT: Use publisher for brochure.

-how to say the different subject names in Spanish and express their opinion on them. -students will revise how to tell the time in Spanish and will learn to describe their school timetable. -students will learn to talk about school rules.

Some students will develop their dictionary skills by learning to look for the stem of a word.

PLTS: Reflective Learner and Independent Enquirer Create a School brochure about the Causeway School to be sent to your penpal in Spain

-students will learn to describe their school uniform. - revise adjectival agreement.

Term 4

Medios de comunicacion (Media)

ICT:use ICT to present their review.(Eg: blog, ppt, publisher)

- How to form the future tense -How to form the conditional tense All students will learn different ways to express their opinion on types of media, TV programmes and films. Students will learn to: - give their opinion using a wide range of structures. - ask somebody else’s opinion - express a different point of view

Enrichment: use skype with penpals

- express agreement -invite other people to participate in activities.(cinema)

Some students will learn to use comparatives and superlatives. Students will develop their listening and reading skills by using the context to infer the meaning of unknown vocabulary

PLTS: Effective Participator and Reflective Learner Students will choose one of the following: 1-Film/book review for a magazine. 2-Plan a chat show programme in groups to be performed to the class. 3- Create a TV guide in Spanish

All students will learn how to form and use comparatives in sentences.

Term 5

El medio ambiente (The environment)

All students will understand key environmental issues in Spanish and will learn to give opinions on this and understand others’. Students will learn to explain what they do for the environment and understand others do.

Some students will apply their PLTS: Creative knowlege of the language to Thinker and understand longer texts. Independent Enquirer Some students will learn how to form positive and negative Students will choose one of the following 2 commands. tasks:

ICT: Use the internet for research.

1-Research an environmental disaster and do a presentation in Spanish to the class. (Eg:Chernobyl etc)

Students will revise the future tense. All students will learn how to set out an argument in stages followed by a conclusión.

2-Create a campaign to raise awareness of a particular environmental issue.

Term 6

La paga (Pocket money)

All students will learn to talk about pocket money, jobs and what they spend their money on.

ICT: create a CV in Spanish

Students will learn how to create longer sentences.

House Project – Anthology. Include best CV’s and Application forms

Students will learn to give reasons using the structure Para+Infinitive and how to use the Gerund.

Some students will learn how to plan for an extended, structured piece of writing.

PLTS: Effective Participator and Self Manager Speaking Students will participate in a mini-mock job interview in Spanish.

Writing: Choice 1- Write an imaginary CV in Spanish and an application form for a job in Spanish. 2- Write a letter to a pen pal discussing pocket money.
