Tonight, the Yeshiva University men’s basketball team returns to the Max Stern Athletic Center, to host Mount Saint Mary College in a key Skyline Conference contest. The Maccabees had a very successful two-game conference road trip, earning a win over Maritime, TBA 91-83 on Thursday, and then defeating St. Joseph’s Long Island by a score of 84-65, on Sunday. Heading into tonight, Yeshiva currently holds the sixth and final playoff spot in the Skyline standings. Mt. St. Mary is currently tied for third with Purchase College. Earlier this season, the Knights defeated the Maccabees, 74-69, at the Kaplan Center. It was Yeshiva’s first conference loss of the season. Gabriel Leifer has made an impact since joining the Macs at the start of the season’s second half. He is averaging a double-double with 17.3 points and 11 rebounds in each of the first three games of his collegiate career. Thanks to his strong start, he was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, on Monday. Simcha Halpert has been honored by the Skyline Conference seven times, so far this season. He was named Skyline Player of the Week twice and earned the conference’s honor roll accolades, five times. He was also awarded Honorable Mention by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association, back on December 4. Halpert is averaging 23.3 points per game, which is first in the Skyline Conference. He leads the team with 24 total steals. For the season, Bar Alluf is averaging 17.5 points and leads the team with 3.6 assists per game. Daniel Katz is scoring 8.1 points per game and averaging 3.5 assists a night. Tal Gweta has a team-high 12 blocks, so far this season.
