Tonight, the Yeshiva University men’s basketball team concludes the 2017-18 regular season with a Skyline Conference matchup against Purchase College, at the Max Stern Athletic Center. This is a critical game TBA for the Maccabees. A Yeshiva win OR a Mount Saint Mary loss to St. Joseph’s Long Island will result in Yeshiva clinching a home playoff game in the first round of the Skyline Conference championships. If that were to happen, the #4 Macs would host #5 Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday evening. However, if Yeshiva loses tonight’s game AND Mount Saint Mary defeats St. Joseph’s Long Island, then Yeshiva would be the #5 seed and travel to #4 Mount Saint Mary for Tuesday’s Skyline first round game. Earlier this season, the Panthers defeated the Maccabees, 67-65, thanks to a buzzer-beating dunk by Tarik Allicock. Tonight is senior night, as graduating seniors Eli Mamann and Ethan Gipsman will be honored with a ceremony before tip-off. Gabriel Leifer has made an impact since joining the Macs at the start of the season’s second half. He is averaging a double-double with 17.9 points and 10.8 rebounds in each of the first 10 games of his collegiate career. He has been named the Skyline Rookie of the Week twice this season. The Lawrence resident was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Monday, and earned Honorable Mention accolades by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association, on Tuesday. Simcha Halpert and Bar Alluf are top-two in the Skyline in scoring. Halpert is averaging 21.1 points per game, while Alluf is averaging 17.8 points per contest. As a team, Yeshiva leads the Skyline in field goal percentage (.476), 3-point field goal percentage (.386), and scoring offense (76.6 ppg). Stay up-to-date with Yeshiva Athletics in several ways.
