Serger Club Project: October 14th or 22nd

Zippered Whatnot Bag with Optional Tucks Techniques: Inserting a zipper by serger, creating serger tucks. Supplies Needed: Fabric & Such ! 1-1/2 yards of quilter's cotton fabric ! Two 22” or longer all purpose zippers (no separating zippers, no metal zippers) ! One yard of 1/4” ribbon for ties (optional) Thread ! Three spools of Maxi-Lock serger thread " ! For optional tucks (listed in same order as shown to the right): " o 3-thread wide overlock tucks: one or two spools of decorative thread, such as Sulky 12wt. cotton solid or Blendables and one or two spools of serger thread. o Wave tucks: Two spools of decorative thread, such as Sulky 12wt. cotton solid or Blendables (two different colors) and one spool of serger thread o 3-thread rolled hem tucks: One spool of decorative thread, such as Sulky 12wt. cotton solid or Blendables and two spools of serger thread. Notions & Needles ! Temporary fabric marker " ! Size 80 serger needles " ! General sewing and serging supplies (pins, scissors, tweezers, seam gauge, Wonder Clips, Wonder Tape, Fray Block, etc.) " ! Serger with manual and all accessories needed to do 3-thread narrow and wide overlocks and your choice of stitch for tucks. " " Denotes items available for purchase at Dublin Sewing Center. These items should always be purchased at Dublin Sewing Center to ensure that you have the correct product and to ensure that we can continue to teach these Clubs at a low price. Please remember, though, that we only carry a few of each item at a time so it is best to purchase your items prior to the class (in person or by phone). Pre-Class Preparation: Cutting: From the quilter’s cotton fabric, cut the following: 1. One 18” strip for the tucked panels a. Cut this 18” strip in half to measure approximately 18” x 22” 2. One 16” strip for the zippered panel and lining a. Cut the following from this 16” strip: i. One 16” x 24” rectangle for the lining ii. Two 16” x 3” rectangles 3. One 16” strip for the zippered panel and lining a. Cut the following from this 16” strip: i. Two 16” x 18” rectangles ii. Two 16” x 3” rectangles 4. Serger Set-Up 1. If you are not doing tucks, set your serger for a 3-thread narrow overlock with serger thread in the loopers and in the needle. 2. If you are doing tucks, set your serger as follows: • 3-Thread Wide Overlock Tucks: i. Needle: Left needle with serger thread ii. Upper Looper: Decorative thread iii. Lower Looper: Decorative thread or serger thread • 3-Thread Wave Tucks i. Needle: Right needle with serger thread ii. Upper Looper: Decorative thread iii. Lower Looper: Decorative thread • 3-Thread Rolled Hem Tucks i. Needle: Right needle with serger thread ii. Upper Looper: Decorative thread iii. Lower Looper: Serger thread
