DRURY PANTHERS (2-1) vs. SALEM INTERNATIONAL (0-5), WAYNE ST (1-1) COMFORT INN/DRURY THANKSGIVING CLASSIC FRIDAY-SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25-26 O’Reilly Family Event Center Radio: JOCK 98.7 FM Webcast: www.b2tv.com

THE MATCHUP PANTHERS PLAY HOST TO COMFORT INN THANKSGIVING CLASSIC Drury is pleased to host the first Comfort Inn/Drury Thanksgiving Classic this weekend, with the Panthers (2-1) set to take on Salem International at 5 p.m. on Friday and then Wayne State at 5 p.m. Saturday at the O’Reilly Family Event Center. Northeastern State (0-5) out of Tahlequah, Okla., - coming off a 68-66 loss to nationally fourth-ranked Missouri Southern Tuesday in Kansas City - will swap foes with the Panthers both nights for the 7:30 p.m. nightcap. The Panthers are coming off an 87-74 win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday, with junior Alex Hall scoring 23 points. SCOUTING SALEM INTERNATIONAL The Tigers of first-year coach Randy Unger fell to 0-5 on the season with Tuesday night’s 101-98 loss at Point Park (Pa.), despite 24 points in 19 minutes from Juanito Moses, a 6-1 junior forward, and 20 points from Ray ‘Mar Porter, a 5-8 junior guard. Salem International plays a run-and-gun style of basketball, as evident by the fact that the Tigers have given up 100 or more points four times in five games and taken 375 shots in that start, an average of 75 shots per contest. Salem comes in with a 23-player roster featuring no player taller than 6-4. SCOUTING WAYNE STATE The Warriors from Detroit, Mich., like Drury, were an NCAA-II Tournament qualifier last season as winners of the GLIAC post-season tournament and are picked for third in the GLIAC South this season. Junior guard Mike Hollingsworth was named the GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year coming off a sophomore year in which he averaged 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds. Wayne State opened the season with a 92-80 loss to defending national champion and current No. 1 Bellarmine, despite 28 points from Hollingsworth (including 24 in the first half, when WSU led 50-42 at the break). Hollingsworth leads five Warriors averaging in double-figures with his 22.0 points per game, while Ike Udanoh, a 6-8 senior, adds 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds for 11th-year head coach David Greer. Wayne State took a 1-1 mark into Friday’s Thanksgiving Classic matchup with Northeastern State. HESSER SHOOTS FOR VICTORY NO. 150 The next victory by eighth-year Drury head coach Steve Hesser will mark the 150th of his collegiate career. Hesser enters the Thanksgiving Classic with a 149-61 record at Drury, a .710 winning percentage that ranks second only behind Bill Harding (119-44, .730 from 1965-71) among Drury head coaches who roamed the sidelines for two or more seasons.

DRURY HEAD COACH STEVE HESSER Steve Hesser, now in his eighth season as the Drury men’s basketball head coach, has established the Panthers’ program as an annual contender for both Great Lakes Valley Conference and NCAA-II honors. Hesser owns a 149-61 mark in his time at Drury, a .710 winning percentage that ranks among the top in the nation and in Drury’s storied basketball history. His Panthers have won 21 or more games now in six of his seven seasons and won or shared four GLVC West titles in six years as a league member. Drury has also qualified for the NCAA-II Tournament in five of his seven seasons, including the 2010-11 campaign, when the Panthers finished 23-8 and advanced to the NCAA-II Midwest Region semifinals after knocking off No. 2 seed Southern Indiana as the seven seed in the opening round. Hesser’s Panthers won the GLVC in 2007-08. His GLVC regular season record since the Panthers joined the prestigious 16-team league is 76-34 (.690 winning percentage). Hesser’s teams have been tremendous at home over the years as well, finishing with a six-year mark of 78-13 (.857) in the venerable Weiser Gym before last year’s 14-1 effort in the new $13.5 million O’Reilly Family Event Center on the Drury University campus. Overall, Hesser’s DU squads are 94-14 at home (16-1 at the OFEC), 42-33 on the road, 43-11 in GLVC regular season home games and 33-23 on the GLVC road in six seasons as a league member for the Panthers.

NEWS AND NOTES PANTHERS PICKED TO REPEAT AS GLVC WEST CHAMPIONS Drury is picked to repeat as champions of the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division in the preseason poll of league coaches. The Panthers received 15 of the 16 first-place votes, with Missouri-St. Louis picking up the other. Drury picked up 113 total points in the GLVC West preseason poll, while Quincy was next with 96 points. Missouri-St. Louis (84) is third, followed by William Jewell (62), Missouri S & T (46), Illinois-Springfield (42), Rockhurst (39) and Maryville (30). Jewell, a first-year league member, is ineligible for the league’s post-season tournament. HESSER LUNCHEONS, RADIO SHOWS RETURN Drury will once again host the Steve Hesser/Drury Basketball Luncheons as well as the Hesser/DU Basketball Radio Show in 2011-12. The luncheons return this season to Doe’s Eat Place (1232 E. DRURY QUICK FACTS

NEWS AND NOTES MITCHELL, HALL CLIMBING DU SCORING CHARTS Drury senior Dennon Mitchell and junior Alex Hall continue to rise in the all-time DU scoring charts in 2011-12. Hall began the season 34th on the list with 1,048 points and with his 52 points through three games this season, has climbed into 29th place with 1,100 points. Hall needs eight points to surpass Kenneth Langston (1,107 from 1989-92) for 28th on the charts and 29 to move past Shaun Bass ( (1,128 from 1997-2000) for 27th. Mitchell became the 39th player to surpass the 1,000-point barrier for his career with his 12-point effort at Southwest Baptist on November 14, and now sits at 1,018, needing four points to move past Steve Hutchinson and Jim Kutz (both with 1,021 points) and into 37th place on the list. HALL FROM WAY DOWNTOWN Hall sank a team and GLVC-best 100 3-pointers last season and with eight made treys in 2011-12 through three games, now has sank 206 in his DU career, moving him past Tim Brown (204 from 2005-09) for fourth place on the all-time DU charts. Hall needs 39 to pass Jasen Fronabarger (244 from 1995-99) for third on the list. Matt Miller, a DU Hall of Famer and currently the director of the O’Reilly Family Event Center, holds the record with 351 made from 1998-2002. Drury is 14-0 in the former Springfield Kickapoo High School standout’s career when he makes five or more 3-pointers in a game. He has drained eight treys in a contest three times in his career, including back-to-back efforts in his first two collegiate games in 2009-10 (vs. Southwest Baptist and Central Christian), to share the single-game record with Miller, Steven Gum and Tim Oetting. THE KIDS CAN PLAY Thanks to the graduation of virtually the entire front-court from last season’s NCAA-II regional semifinalist, the Panthers are giving several freshmen key opportunities to get a head start on their college careers. Through three games, freshman guard Drake Patterson has earned three starting assignments, while freshmen forwards Korry Tillery, Cameron Adams and Derek Daniels and freshman point guard Josh Buie have all found themselves in key early roles. Tillery had 15 points and a team-high five rebounds in the loss at Southwest Baptist, while Adams ignited a second-half Drury rally in the 87-74 win over Texas A&M-Commerce with a career-high 13 points in 14 minutes off the bench. All five freshmen mentioned above are averaging double-figure minutes played per game, with Tillery pacing the group with his average of 20.0 minutes per contest through three games. B-ING CAREFUL WITH THE BASKETBALL Junior point guard Brandon Lockhart has picked up where he’s left off the past two seasons in terms of taking care of the basketball, with 14 assists to four turnovers through the Panthers’ first three games of 2011-12. Lockhart finished seventh in the GLVC last season in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.76). Since joining the regular DU starting lineup 11 games into his freshman season, “B” has posted 15 games with no turnovers - including seven as a freshman, six last year as a sophomore. In 54 career starts, Lockhart has had only eight games of four or more turnovers. HOME SWEET HOME While Weiser Gym was long a house of horrors for Panther opponents - Drury fashioned a 481-100 record over six decades in the former home of the program - the Panthers have continued that tradition of protecting their turf in the now two-year-old O’Reilly Family Event Center. Coach Hesser’s Panthers are now 16-1 in the new arena, including a 14-1 mark in the inaugural 2010-11 season of the OFEC in which the only blemish was a 70-69 loss to Northern Kentucky, which came on a last-second buzzer-beater. For those into arena records, DU scored 103 points against St. Gregory’s (12/18/10), has made 11 3-pointers in a game at the OFEC twice (last against Maryville on 2/10/11) and grabbed 57 rebounds against Southwestern College on 12/30/10. Individually, DU records/highs in the OFEC are the 36 points by Alex Hall against St. Gregory’s on 12/18/10, the 15 rebounds by JaJuan Maxwell against Rockhurst on 2/20/11, the seven assists by Brandon Lockhart vs. UIndy on 2/4/11 and the six 3-pointers by Hall against St. Gregory’s (12/18/10), in addition to the five blocked shots by Ian Carter against Missouri S & T (2/14/11). Opponent highs in the new arena include 33 points by St. Gregory’s Fayzon Richey (12/18/10), 15 rebounds by St. Joseph’s Marcus Jackson (12/4/10) and eight assists by Laithe Massey of Arkansas Tech (11/17/10).
