DRURY PANTHERS (16-4, 10-2) vs. MARYVILLE SAINTS (19-5, 9-3) Saturday, February 9 3:15 p.m. O’Reilly Family Event Center Radio: JOCK 98.7 FM TV: Mediacom Connections 22 Webcast: www.B2TV.com

GAME INFO PANTHERS, SAINTS BATTLE FOR GLVC WEST LEAD It’s a showdown for first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division when the Drury Panthers entertain Maryville Saturday at the O’Reilly Family Event Center. The Panthers are 10-2 and leading the West, while Maryville is alone in second place at 9-3 in the final regular season meeting between the two. A DU win would open up some space in the standings for the Panthers, with just five league games remaining, while Maryville could pull even if the Saints can avenge a 78-37 home loss to Drury on January 24 in St. Louis, arguably the Panthers’ most impressive effort this season. While DU is the league’s hottest team with its eight game winning streak, the Saints have not lost since that blowout to the Panthers, piling up four consecutive wins, including an 89-53 triumph at Missouri S & T on Thursday in which Maryville set a school record by making 20 3-pointers (in just 30 tries). Drury picked up a 90-75 victory over UMSL Thursday night at The O’ behind 30 points from Alex Hall, who hit 10 of 12 shots and 6 of 7 from 3-point range to lead the Panthers to a season-best 68-percent shooting night from the floor (32 of 47). SCOUTING THE SAINTS Coach Kevin Carroll’s squad is 9-2 on the road this season, with the two losses at Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana. The Saints lead the GLVC in scoring defense at 62.1 points, just one-tenth of a point ahead of Drury (62.2). Asa Toney, a 6-3 junior, leads Maryville with his 14.7 points per game, while Armon Provo, a 6-1 sophomore, adds 13.5 points and 6-3 senior Gerald Shaw adds 10.7 points. Provo had 31 points and hit all 11 of his shots (including 7 treys) at S & T on Thursday. THE SERIES Drury leads the all-time series 8-1. ALSO ... The Panthers outrebounded Maryville 40-21 in their meeting earlier this season, when they held the Saints to season lows in points (37) and field-goal percentage (.262, 11 for 42). ... Drury is now 49-14 in February in Coach Steve Hesser’s nine seasons, including 11-0 at the O’Reilly Center in February since it opened in 2010-11. ... Teddy Simniok, who leads the Panthers in FG percentage at .626 (third in the GLVC), is shooting 69 percent from the field (40 of 58) during Drury’s current eight-game winning streak. ... The Panthers are now tied with East leader Wisconsin-Parkside (10-2) - which handed DU its only home loss of the season (90-88 in OT on Jan. 5) - for the best overall GLVC record. ... Brandon Lockhart, who leads the GLVC in assists at 6.1 per game (and steals at 3.15), now has 443 assists for his DU career and needs 10 to catch Tim Brown (453) for fifth on the school’s all-time list. ... Saturday’s game will be televised by Mediacom Connections 22, with replays of the women’s/men’s doubleheader vs. Maryville set for Sunday at 6 p.m. and Monday at 2 p.m. ... Drury is second in the GLVC in attendance at 1,817 fans for its 12 home dates so far, trailing only Kentucky Wesleyan’s annual guesstimation, which this year is 2,481 fans per game in its final season as a GLVC member.

DRURY HEAD COACH STEVE HESSER Steve Hesser, now in his ninth season as the Drury men’s basketball head coach, has established the Panthers’ program as an annual contender for both Great Lakes Valley Conference and NCAA-II honors. Hesser owns a 180-75 mark in his time at Drury, a .705 winning percentage that ranks among the top in the nation and in Drury’s storied basketball history. His Panthers have won 20 or more games in six of his eight seasons and won or shared four GLVC West titles in seven years as a league member. Drury has also qualified for the NCAA-II Tournament in five of his eight seasons. Hesser’s Panthers won the GLVC in 2007-08. His GLVC regular season record since the Panthers joined the prestigious 16-team league is 85-36 (.690 winning percentage). Hesser’s teams have been tremendous at home over the years as well, finishing with a six-year mark of 78-13 (.857) in the venerable Weiser Gym before going 26-4 combined over the previous two seasons in the new, 3,100-seat O’Reilly Family Event Center. Overall, Hesser’s DU squads are 111-18 at home (37-5 at The O’), 52-40 on the road, 56-14 in GLVC regular season home games and 40-30 on the GLVC road in seven seasons as a league member.

NEWS AND NOTES PANTHERS PICKED FOR SECOND IN GLVC WEST Drury was tabbed for a second-place finish in the West Division in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason poll of league coaches, just behind predicted favorite and defending division champ Missouri-St. Louis. UMSL’s Tritons received eight first-place votes and 113 total points, just ahead of Drury’s seven first-place votes and 110 points. Quincy received the remaining firstplace vote and finished third with 89 points, followed by Illinois-Springfield (69), Maryville (63), William Jewell (46), Missouri S & T (41) and Rockhurst (37). Bellarmine is the preseason East Division favorite, followed in order by Southern Indiana, Kentucky Wesleyan, Indianapolis, Lewis, Saint Joseph’s, Wisconsin-Parkside and league newcomer McKendree. PANTHERS CONTINUE HOME DOMINANCE AT THE O’ After moving from one of the great traditional college basketball environments - the historic Weiser Gym - into the plush, 3,100-seat O’Reilly Family Event Center for the 2010-11 season, Drury’s tradition of taking care of business at home clearly has continued. Coach Hesser’s Panthers are 37-5 in The O’ since the move, including an 11-1 start this season. Drury had its string of 13 consecutive home wins come to a close with a 90-88 overtime loss to Wisconsin-Parkside on Jan. 5. Prior to that, the Panthers’ last home loss coming to defending national champion Bellarmine (84-65) on January 12, 2012. After beating UMSL 90-75 at The O’ on February 7, Drury has now won 17 of its last 18 in the new arena and is 11-0 in February since it opened. PANTHERS DOING IT WITH DEFENSE Drury’s most impressive outing defensively of the season - the Jan. 24, 78-37 victory at Maryville in a showdown between GLVC West coleaders going in - continued a trend of strong defensive efforts this season for the Panthers. The 37 points by the Saints were the fewest allowed by Drury this season, and Maryville’s 26-percent shooting for the game was also a season worst for the Saints. After limiting Rockhurst to 39 points in a 94-39 blasting of the Hawks last Saturday at The O’, The Panthers have now held 16 of their 19 opponents to 70 points or less, including nine foes held below 60 points and four below 50. Drury is now No. 1 in the GLVC in coring offense (82.2) and No. 2 in scoring defense (62.2), trailing leader Maryville by .10 in the latter. The Panthers are also No. 1 in the league in FG percentage defense at .395 and steals (10.8) as well as assists (20.0) and 3-point percentage (.425). HALL LEAVING HIS MARK ON THE DU RECORD BOOKS Senior guard Alex Hall, an All-GLVC choice in each of his first three seasons as a Panther, continues to climb the DU all-time scoring charts. Entering the Feb. 9 game with UMSL, Hall has 1,831 points to rank seventh on Drury’s career scoring list, and is chasing Collins Harris (1,910 from 2004-08) for sixth. Lonnie Holmes is the all-time scoring king at Drury with 2,341 points from 1991 to 1995; Hall would need to get to the 1,920 points scored by James Bone from 1976-80 to crack the all-time Top 5 scorers at DU. Hall has scored in double-figures in 89 of his 108 career games played at DU, having a string of 16 consecutive games in double-digits snapped with his nine-point effort against Arkansas Tech on Nov. 24, when he scored all nine points at the FT line. It was just the second time in his now 108 games that Hall had been held without a field goal in a game. He’s topped the 20-point barrier 36 times in his career and the 30-point mark six times, including a high of 36 as a freshman at Rockhurst. Hall now has 326 made 3-pointers in his career, ranking him No. 2 on the school’s all-time list. Matt Miller, Drury’s current Executive Director for Athletic Affairs, holds the record with 351 made from 1998-2002. Hall’s nine 3-pointers in a Dec. 6 win over Missouri Science and Technology established a single-game mark for treys, one that Hall previously had done three times and shared the mark with Miller, current DU assistant coach Steven Gum and Tim Oetting. Hall has made five or more 3-pointers in a game a remarkable 21 times in his career, including a six-trey effort this season in Drury’s 73-44 shellacking of Southwest Baptist at The O’ in the Nov. 13 season-opener, in the Jan. 17 win over Illinois-Springfield and in Thursday night’s win over UMSL. THE GENTLE GIANT Senior Teddy Simniok continues to stack impressive performances inside down the stretch for the Panthers. The transfer from Missouri StateWest Plains last season averaged 6.5 points and 3.0 rebounds. This season, he’s third in scoring (10.3 points) and adding 3.9 rebounds per contest while leading the Panthers with his 63-percent shooting from the field. Simniok, after an 8-for-9 shooting effort against UMSL on Feb. 7, now has shot better than 50 percent from the floor in eight consecutive games - which happens to coincide with Drury’s current winning streak. In that stretch, he’s made 40 of 58 shots (69 percent).
