Parish Update from our Senior Warden Dear Nativity Members, I want to give you an update on several items going on at our church. Please join me in thanking Dr. John Lucas, III for his leadership and commitment to our scouting organization for over 20 years. Dr. Lucas will be stepping down as Scoutmaster but will continue to be supportive in other ways. Each year, a typical commitment from Dr. Lucas has included: Leading weekly meetings, weekend campouts, long weekend campouts to places like the Ocoee, and a one week summer camp. Doing the math, that is about one month a year that he has devoted to the children of our community. Nativity will be presenting him with a small token of our appreciation and your Vestry knows his family will be happy to have him around more. Thank you Dr. Lucas, for your unselfish service to the children of our community. As you know, we are working with Bishop Gray on a “Priest in Charge” search process. By next week, our assigned task of producing a parish profile will be complete and we look forward to hearing back from the diocese on our next steps. I anticipate that the process will begin to pick up pace and your search committee looks forward to keeping you updated. One conversation I have had with several members lately is how Nativity operates from a financial perspective. The process of preparing the parish profile has given us insight into how we compare with other Episcopal Churches. It is this insight that your finance committee would love to share. We are calling it “Nativity Finances Demystified: An Open Look at How We Operate Financially.” Your treasurer and I will be available at the church on Wednesday, October 3rd at 5:30pm. We will present our finance report to members that attend, but most importantly, we will be there to answer any questions you might have about how we plan and operate from a financial perspective. Members of Nativity, Well, I know some of you are wondering why I am the stewardship chairman again this year. In November of last year at our stewardship luncheon, I advised that I would be stepping down and taking a sabbatical. Without going into a lengthy answer, your church leaders have asked me to lead our campaign again. How can anybody say no to our church? As Bill mentions in his letter, there will be four members of our church that will give a talk at each service during the month of October. They will share with you how the Church of Nativity has been a part of their spiritual journey. On October 7, Bill Andrews will speak; October 14, Mary Dent Lucas; October 21, Lance Mohammed; and October 28, Bob Provine. To close, while reading my devotional this morning, I was moved by a reference to chapter 12 in the Book of Romans. This chapter is so powerful and offers direction on the ways we can live our lives with gratitude and through stewardship.

NATIVITY
Nativity EYCers participated in the Youth Can Make a Difference Canned Food Drive sponsored by Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church on Sunday, September 23. Our youth were one of many church youth groups participating in the citywide collection of canned goods.
Welcome to Lenda!
God Bless, Bob Provine
Last but certainly not least, we plan to kick off our annual stewardship campaign in October. This year the campaign will be built around the theme, “Feasting on Gratitude.” Each Sunday in October, under the leadership of Bob Provine, we will have Nativity members sharing about themselves from a stewardship perspective. Bob will wrap things up on the 28th of October and we look forward to having our 2013 commitments accounted for by the 9th of November. This plan will allow us to present a signed, sealed, and delivered 2013 plan and budget to prospective clergy. This will allow our priest in charge to come in with one less administrative task in front of them.
