Those Present:
Rector: The Rev. The Rector reviewed “Vital Practices, for leading congregations”, an article by Scott Gunn. APPROVAL of the MAY MINUTES
A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes of the May Vestry Meeting as submitted. MOTION CARRIED. RECTOR’S REPORT 3.
All-American Lunch- the EYC will host an All-American Lunch following the 10:30AM service on July
Youth Ministry Alliance- Plans are being made to partner in Youth Ministry with the Church of the
Advent in Sumner.
Inaugural Event of the Nativity Spirituality Forum- On August 6th, The Rev. Carol Mead will present, “An Anglican Approach to Scripture” at Nativity. This will be the first in Nativity’s Speakers series. Columbarium- The Rector reported that parishioners continue to express interest in Nativity having a Columbarium. Vestry Members discussed previous information obtained on this subject, and the need to continue to investigate details on having a Columbarium at Nativity.
Member Call System- The benefits of having this service were explained.
Hearing Assistance- Four units of devices to enhance hearing during Nativity’s services have been
donated. The ushers make these available to those who wish to use them.
Website/Social Networking- Information on updates to Nativity’s website and Facebook page was given to Vestry Members. Diocese and Province- Information learned from recent meetings/conferences was shared with Vestry Members, with a particular emphasis on ministry with young adults. The Rector informed the Vestry that he may take some time away during the week of July 4, but plans
were not set at present.
Home Schooling- the Rector explained the plans that he and his wife, Beth, have made to home school
Shelby and Olivia for the upcoming year. PROGRAM COMMITTEE VBS Update
Jo Claire Swayze, Program Chair, reported that VBS is in session at Nativity this week. Lucy Jones is the
leader of this year’s VBS. Young Adult Ministry
Hiram Eastland and Harris Powers reported on the recent supper gathering of young adults. Ideas for programs were discussed at this meeting. Preschool Update Lance Mohamed gave an update on the meetings held and work being done to prepare for the opening
of Nativity Day School. A copy of the goals set will be given to Vestry Members. ECW Bridge Tournament
Liz Mounger informed Vestry Members that the Bridge Tournament raised a little over $1,000 for
Nativity’s Day School. Nursery Help
Mary Rose Carter is working on assessing the needs for nursery care provided during Nativity’s services
and activities. The Bridge Meeting Nativity will host a meeting of the community group, “The Bridge” on Thursday night, June 16, 2011.
STRUCTURES COMMITTEE Grenada Lake Nursery
Dudley McBee, Structures Chair, gave an update on the services that Nativity will receive from Grenada
Lake Nursery, which will be to winterize the sprinkler system in the fall and turn on in the spring for an annual cost of $267.50.
Gusta Garden Sprinklers
Repairs are needed for the sprinkler system in Gusta’s Garden. Members of the Structures Committee
will determine what is needed to make this system functional. Damage to Sacristy Ceiling and Light Fixtures The Rector reported that a leak in the air conditioner unit that serves the Rose Community Building
may have caused damage to the Sacristy ceiling and light fixtures. Members of the Structures Committee will arrange for inspection and any needed repairs. FINANCE COMMITTEE MAY FINANCE REPORT
Mo Powers, Treasurer, explained the May Financial Report. Areas over budget were noted and expected sources of income were stated. A motion from the Finance Committee was made to approve the May Financial Report. MOTION CARRIED. RECTOR’S HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT and HOUSING EQUITY ACCOUNT
Liz Mounger explained these accounts and on behalf of the Finance Committee recommended that the Rector’s Health Savings Account and Housing Equity Allowance be funded in June if there is sufficient money to do so. ANTIQUE SHOW CHECKING ACCOUNT
Liz updated Vestry Members on the plans being made for the Antique Show and Sale being held at Nativity. On behalf of the Finance Committee, Liz made a motion that a bank account be established to be named “Church of the Nativity Antique Show and Sale”. MOTION CARRIED. NATIVITY DAY SCHOOL
Liz explained the benefits of having a fund to which donations can be made to benefit Nativity Day School. On behalf of the Finance Committee, Liz made a motion that a fund be established to be named “Nativity Day School Endowment Fund”. MOTION CARRIED.
PILLOW ACADEMY TUITION
Liz presented the following recommendation from the Finance Committee regarding the Pillow Academy tuition as a decision has been made by the Rector and his wife to home school their children; The Finance Committee recommends that the remaining funds budgeted for payment of the Pillow Academy tuition
for the two minor children of the Rector be paid directly to the Rector for the remainder of this calendar year. RECOMMENDATION APPROVED.

Bill Andrews, Sr. Warden, described the Ordination Service for Van Bankston and Watson Lamb he recently attended in Jackson. JULY VESTRY MEETING A motion was made and seconded that the FULL VESTRY not hold a monthly meeting in July. MOTION CARRIED. It was agreed that the Executive Committee of the Vestry will meet in July.
