Holiday greetings to our wonderful alumnae! I can't believe the semester is almost over and that my time as Vice President of Alumnae Relations is drawing to a close. We've had a busy Fall semester around here! We initiated five new sisters, worked the registration desk at the Hickory Walk to End Alzheimers', held our 2nd annual Trunk or Treat (thanks to receiving the national 1874 grant!), and held an epic Founders Day! We will be in touch again in early 2018 to give you our Spring calendar. Until then, I want to wish each of you a warm and happy holiday season. Walk to End Alzheimers' Disease - Hickory - October 2017 This year, not only did we walk in the event, but we were given the opportunity to assist by working the registration desk. We proudly wore our letters and fun purple items to show our pride in being Sigma Kappas and how we want to help find a cure for this terrible disease. Many of our members have had family members or loved ones affected by Alzheimers', which made it extra special that we were there to witness the release of the white flower, which represents our hope that one day SURVIVORS of Alzheimers' will be represented in the walk.
Initiation - Fall 2017 In October, we happily initiated five new members to our sisterhood. We think they fit in with us great so far! We currently have 23 members. Congratulations to our new Sisters (left to right): Meredith Wise, Maria Soto, Abby Obran, Brittany Williams, and Amber Stallings!

2nd Annual Sigma Kappa's Trunk or Treat! Yes, we are extremely proud to say that we have established a tradition at Lenoir-Rhyne University by hosting a Trunk or Treat for Halloween! Campus organizations were all invited to decorate a trunk and pass out candy to area kids. We had booths set up with games like ring toss and balloon animals. And we took the opportunity to pass out literature about Alzheimers' disease awareness as well. This year's funding for the event was the result of our chapter winning the 1874 Giving Circle Grant from National Headquarters. We had a great time and even got some awesome praise from other organizations for it!

Founders Day 2017 We held this year's Founders Day celebration at The Crossing at Hollar Mill, which is a renovated special events venue that used to be one of Hickory's cotton mills. The Theta Mu chapter from UNC Charlotte and their alumnae joined us! We held a program that included a reading of the five founders' traits and a candle lighting in their honor. We had

various photo booths set up with fun props! We had a great time enjoying food and socializing with sisters from another chapter!

Epsilon Alpha won the National COB Award! In October, our chapter was honored to be awarded the National COB Award by National Headquarters! Only one chapter receives this award each year! Our award was based on our recruitment efforts in 2016 which resulted in us doubling our chapter size and having excellent retention of our new members class.
