pring is here and the time has come to take out the clubs, dust them off and head out to the golf course. It is so nice to see sunshine, warmer temperatures and courses in good shape especially after our exceptionally snowy and cold winter. It is also time to kickoff our 2010 EWGA Dayton season. We will gather at NCR Country Club on Sunday, April 11 at 12:30. The

board has planned many exciting events and our leagues are in place for registration. Our kickoff is our best attended event and it is the first opportunity for you to sign up for your leagues and the different golf events. It is also an opportunity to recruit potential new members. So if you know anyone who may be interested in joining EWGA please have them go to the website to register. If

you haven’t already registered for the “Burst into Spring” kickoff event be sure to do so. You can either mail your response or go to our website at www.ewgadayton.com to register. Also posted on the website is our 2010 calendar of events. I look forward to seeing everyone at NCR Country Club.

Congratulations! The EWGA Dayton, OH Chapter is one of the top winners in the 2009 Finders Keepers Membership Reward Program. Thanks to the efforts of your Chapter leaders

Greetings from Florida. As many of you know I winter in Lakeland, FL. First of all this has been by far the coldest winter that I remember. I play down here in weather that I wouldn't dream of in Ohio. I actually have earmuffs that I have worn on the course here this winter. My husband doesn't like to golf in "cool" weather so I thought I would look online and find a local EWGA chapter and see if I could play in an "event" or maybe even join a league. My town of Lakeland is a population of 80,000. They do not have a chapter. There are other slightly smaller towns around, and they don't either. They have a county chapter.

CONGRATULATIONS! The EWGA Dayton, OH Chapter has the following member who earned prizes for recruiting a minimum of 2 (or more!) new members in the 2009 Member-Get-A-Member (MGAM) Campaign: Ø

Mary Jo Wiley

Prizes have already been shipped to all MGAM recruiters and they will be received in the next few days, however we wanted to provide you with the list of your winner(s) so that you can recognize them in your newsletter or at a future event.

And they have NO weekly leagues. They play "events" every now and then. So I looked online at Orlando. They apparently have no leagues either. They play a different course each Saturday. They also have a "Nine and Dine" on Friday evenings. They have NO leagues! What kind of camaraderie can they foster with only that? Needless to say I was sorry, but it made me even more thankful that we in Dayton have such a wonderful chapter and a board with progressive leadership. We have not only several "events" to play, but many leagues within the metropolitan Dayton area which play on a weekly schedule from spring to late summer. We put them to shame on the playing field! I look forward to playing with you in Dayton!! ………………………………………………...Leah Halfpap

We know that EWGA continues to thrive because members reach out and invite other women into the game of golf and introduce them to the fun, friendships, and networking available to EWGA members.

Ethel Washington-Harris Honored On Thursday, February 18, 2010, Sinclair recognized former Board of Trustees member and Sinclair graduate Ethel Washington-Harris by dedicating a room in her honor. Room 7L05, a popular computer lab in the Library, has been dedicated to Ethel to acknowledge her 15 years of voluntary service to Sinclair. Ethel joined the Board of Trustees in 1992 and finished her final term in 2007. During that time, she served as chair of the Personnel Curriculum Committee. Ethel served under three presidents: David Ponitz, Ned Sifferlen, and Steven Johnson. Her leadership on the Board proved invaluable in shaping the college into the successful institution is it today by establishing the framework to develop learning centers in Englewood, Huber Heights, Preble County and Mason. During her term, she helped pass three successful levy campaigns, resulting in $680 million in funding to provide high-quality, accessible education. Ethel retired from DP&L after a 36-year career in management and volunteered her time by tutoring students at the Richard Allen School. She also participated in many community boards and organizations.

The Board has scheduled fun activities throughout the year. This year we had a bowling night which everyone enjoyed. In the past I have served on the Social Committee and as Secretary.

Tee: What one memory do you have that makes you laugh when you think about it? Ginny: Our Wed. night Yankee league started out on a beautiful summer night of golf. Suddenly, a storm developed with "hurricane" force winds and rain. The walkers threw their bags and themselves on any available golf cart. Others took off running for the clubhouse. When we got to the clubhouse we were a sight to behold. I don't know who won the wet T-shirt contest that night. (continued on page 5)

Volunteers Drive EWGA ”Imagine what could happen if everyone gave a little?

EWGA is an organization that is run by volunteer talent. It takes a collection of skills and abilities to deliver the value that we all enjoy. We need YOU. Sign-up for one of our current volunteer opportunities. Use your current skills or develop new ones in a friendly non-threatening environment. EWGA is committed to advancing the leadership skills of our members. Use a volunteer opportunity to develop your skills. Imagine the possibilities of this organization if we all gave just a little! Volunteer sign-up will be available at the April 11th Kickoff at NCR Country Club. We are looking for volunteers to join the following committees: Membership Leagues

Leadership

Sponsorship

Golf Events

Communications

Social Events

Handicap

Marketing Education Contact Kathy Garrison, Leadership Chair, at [email protected] if you are interested in participating on one of these committees. If you are not going to be at the Kickoff meeting, download the Volunteer signup form from the website and email it to Kathy Garrison.

Membership Renewals As we’ve seen in the past, our Chapter Kickoff event seems to be the place to renew our memberships. This likely stems from years past when all members were due to renew in March. Now, with monthly renewals, we are working to change that culture and expectations regarding renewals. Prior to the time of our Kickoff, we plan to have renewal notices (via both mail and email) sent to members that are due each month. We encourage you to renew online or directly with EWGA HQ (preferably before your expiration date) so that you can focus on fun, sign up for leagues, and meet and greet the new members in attendance at our Kickoff!
