Continued Secondary Education at Hartsholme Academy Important Initial Consultation Dear Parents and Carers I regularly have parental requests regarding the possibility of Hartsholme Academy extending its provision into secondary education. You may remember that we unsuccessfully applied for a Free School last year; this application was turned down after considerable pressure from other local secondary schools that lobbied the Department of Education and local politicians. I am very aware of the determination of some parents for their children to continue their education with the high standards set at Hartsholme Academy. Therefore I have been working hard in the background to try and find a solution with which I would like to start an initial consultation with you. This year we have worked closely with the Lincoln UTC (www.lincolnutc.co.uk) as they share our educational principles and philosophy. The UTC currently only take students from year 10, however, they have agreed to work in partnership with us on a bid and subsequent project to bridge the gap between Hartsholme Academy and the UTC by jointly providing years 7,8 and 9 before being guaranteed a place at the UTC in year 10. It is planned that this new secondary provision would cover the full KS 3 curriculum but would be taught via projects at an appropriate level, fully preparing students for a KS 4 curriculum at the UTC. Even though this is the very start of the journey in making this project a reality, I need to gauge an accurate level of interest. Therefore, I am initially asking whether you would be interested in this new and exciting project for your child? If there is enough interest from parents I will hold an open meeting to discuss this further and what the next steps would be.
