Weekly Newsletter For the Week Ending 16.09.16 Federation News and a Note from Mrs Pigram Wow! What a week. Well done to all of the children for working so hard in the heat! They have all been marvellous. It has certainly been an exciting week and I have enjoyed visiting every class (and showing some very important guests around too). I enjoyed reviewing all of the reading activities that were taking place in every class. Reading will be one of our major focuses this year in both schools. We are responding to the increased expectations at the end of each Key Stage and have spent our School Improvement time, this week, reviewing systems, moderating work and setting up expectations for the year. We will be booking some workshops for parents. Next week we will be continuing to focus on standards and will be holding writing standards meetings. Mrs Willis and I will be monitoring and feeding back to staff and staff will be taking part in writing standards meetings. In addition, staff have taken part, and will continue to take part over the next week, in safeguarding training (including CSE and PREVENT) as is required of them annually. If you have any queries, questions or ideas regarding our improvement planning and implementation, we would love to hear from you. Please do come in and see us or write us a note or email (
[email protected] or
[email protected]). Or, you could join us for a coffee morning or Parent Forum Meeting. Details to follow. May I please remind everybody about Harvest Festival? We don’t have much food yet! Thank you to all of the parents and children that have taken part in assertive mentoring this week. We know that this approach works and the children that took part in the initiative last year made accelerated progress overall. We really appreciate your support. Finally, Reception photographs are being taken by the Evening Echo this week and next week for publication in the newspaper. If you haven’t returned an agreement for photographs (a letter will be sent out and agreements were asked for on the documentation shared with parents before their children joined), please do so as soon as possible. Finally, it only remains for me to wish you all a very pleasant and safe weekend.
A note from Mrs Willis The weather has been kind to us this week. If it continues may I please remind parents/carers to provide children with a sun hat and apply sun cream to them before school? The teachers are in the process of giving the children targets so please ask you child what theirs is. Lastly, thank you to Lilly and George Haines and their family for the flowers! Have a lovely weekend.
What are we doing in Collective Worship this week? Next week our Collective Worship theme will be “Prayer.” We will learn the importance of prayer to Christians. We will sing hymns such as “Kum Ba Yah.” Our British Value of the week will be “Democracy”.
Growth Mindset – a challenge from Mrs Pigram “There is a difference betwee n not knowing and not knowing yet. ” Shela Tobias I would love to see as many posters reflecting the above quotation as possible so that they can be displayed around the schools. Please let me have any posters by next Friday.
News and Notes from Canewdon I have received some lovely complements about our wonderful school and the fantastic pupils and staff this week. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to our school! Unfortunately, some pupils are still using the tyres and the trim trails in the morning and after school. The children have been reminded in assembly this week that this is not allowed and there may well be a consequence if they are caught. Please encourage your children to stay off the equipment in the mornings and evenings. Thank you. Also, sadly, it has been reported that it appears that somebody has reversed into or driven into the main school gates. These are being fixed but I must remind parents and carers that, for safety reasons, they should not be parking in the school carpark. In the near future, the gates will be closed and locked during the day for the safety of the pupils and school users. Don’t forget the school photographs next week! Enjoy your weekend
News and Notes from St. Nicholas We had a visit from several headteachers from other local schools this week. This was as a result of the peer to peer school development work that we have put ourselves forward for. The visitors were really positive about the children and the work that they were undertaking. Having the opportunity to share great practice is very rewarding and It was lovely to hear such positive comments and I am looking forward to visiting the other schools. We are trying to expand our book collection. If your child has any appropriate books that you would be willing to donate, we would really appreciate them. Just a reminder that whilst we understand that some parents/classes etc. have set up social media accounts, the school does not communicate via these individual accounts. If you have any queries, issues or feedback, please do come and speak to us or send your queries via the office. Many thanks. Enjoy your weekend.
