Weekly Newsletter For the Week Ending 23.09.16 Federation News and a Note from Mrs Pigram Another week has passed. Very quickly! It has been lovely to see all of the children so engaged in their work across both schools. One of the things we have been working on this week is writing and standards in writing. All of the staff have attended standards meetings and have identified different ways of supporting your children. Watch out for “pen licences with points”! The aim is to keep the licences, not lose them! We have also identified a need to develop pupils’ independent work and working skills. Pupils are being expected to complete more work independently, especially as they move through the schools. Consequently, if they do not achieve what the teacher knows they are capable of, or do not produce work of an appropriate standard, pupils will be asked to re-do their work in their own time to the appropriate standard. This is in order that every child develops the Growth Mindset values we have been promoting and learns to develop stamina. Please support us with this. In the long term, it will help your child. I hope that the parents who received leadership feedback found it useful. We have introduced the concept of leadership feedback to parents whenever books and work is monitored by leadership. Please do ask your child’s class teacher for any further information. Preparations are well under way for Harvest. We are looking forward to celebrating this important event. Finally, are you interested in a Midday Assistant Position on a permanent or a cover basis? If so, please contact the office for an application pack (both schools). Have a lovely, safe weekend

A note from Mrs Willis It has been lovely seeing so many children participating in the clubs we have on offer at both schools. I really hope the children are enjoying them. Please don’t forget to come along to the PTA AGMs that are taking place next week. Have a lovely weekend.

What are we doing in Collective Worship this week? Next week our Collective Worship theme will be “Harvest.” We will demonstrate an awareness of the importance of sharing food and resources. We will sing hymns such as “What you Sow.” Our British Value of the week will be “The Rule of Law”.

Growth Mindset – a challenge from Mrs Pigram “Challenges are what makes life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful” Joshua J. Marine I would love to see as many posters reflecting the above quotation as possible so that they can be displayed around the schools. Please let me have any posters by next Friday.

News and Notes from Canewdon It was lovely to see the children so motivated about their new School Council. Please do support them with all of their ideas. As some of you may know, Mrs Inwood has not been in the office since the start of the academic year. Sadly, she has had to move on due to personal reasons. We all miss her and wish her all the very best. Interviews have taken place and as soon as all of the recruitment checks are complete, we will introduce you to our new Office Assistant. Please don’t forget the Macmillan Coffee Morning, organised by the PTA. They really do value your support. School coffee mornings are coming up – watch the “dates for the diary” section on the newsletter and website. All parents/carers are welcome. When collecting children from clubs, please do so on the pathway, not in the staff car park. Thank you. Finally, please do support the PTA during their AGM. They do need your support.

News and Notes from St. Nicholas The teachers have been very busy developing their skills this week. You may well have noticed some of them haven’t been in school – they have been on courses. We are all looking forward to seeing the learning being passed onto the children! Unfortunately, we have noticed a lot of people parking on the double and zig zagged lines outside the school recently. We have also seen people mounting the pavement to park and get past obstacles. Please do refrain from this. An accident only takes a moment! Please don’t forget the PTA’s AGM. They really do need your help! Also, coffee mornings are coming up – watch the “dates for the diary” section on the newsletter. All parents/carers are welcome. Finally, the School Council are organising a cake sale. Please do support them.
