CARPENTER #Assembler #ConcreteCarpenter #CarpenterApprentice #JourneypersonCarpenter As a Carpenter, you’re needed for just about everything structural: constructing and erecting facilities and plants and assisting ongoing and turnaround maintenance activities by building construction supports such as scaffolds or braces. As you gain experience, you may move into a leadership role. Because your work interlocks so precisely with that of other trades, your coordination skills make you a strong overseer of construction projects. Does this kind of work hit the nail on the head?

What does this career look like? You’re both a doer and a thinker. You build, shape and cut materials to specified measurements, assemble and fasten components, and install windows, frames and flooring. You may choose to specialize as well. Cribbing and framing appeals to those who can handle the heavy lifting associated with oil and gas and other industrial construction. Carpenters play a key role in erecting wooden and steel scaffolding to support the activities of other trades on construction and turnaround maintenance sites. Whatever you choose, you’re always thinking on your feet. Organizing, coordinating and supervising are all in a day’s work. As you rise to the top of your trade, imagination and an ability to see the bigger picture is what puts you in a leadership role on construction projects. Your craftsmanship brings blueprints and sketches to life.

What would I do? Measure twice, cut once is your motto as a Carpenter. Your job is just as much about having foresight, planning and coordinating, as it is about building and creating. You have the logical mind to follow specifications and perform calculations and measurements, but you also have the creativity to think beyond the blueprint. Adaptability is key for your trade, especially when things don’t happen as planned. You may find yourself helping other trades to keep the project on schedule.
