LEVEL II SES

LEVEL I SES

LEVEL III SES

9

Level I SES Small –scale Solar Energy System Typically roof mounted (no more ½ of footprint of primary structure) Supplements main power source from the electric company Considered a accessory SES because it serves the primary use of the property Allowed in all Zoning Districts

10

Level II SES Commercial –scale Solar Energy System Applies to all mid-sized ground mounted systems Serves primary commercial use located on the property and supplements the main power source Residential: < ½ acres - all zoning districts Commercial/ Business: < 10 acres - B1 thru B6

19

Level III SES Utility –scale Solar Energy System Applies to all large-sized ground mounted systems Serves primary use of the land Tie into either existing substations and local transmission lines or tie into regional grids Range from 15- 150 acres - B5 thru B6

What’s the difference?

22

23

24

Monocrystalline Pros • external even flat coloring • highest efficiency rates since they are made out of the highest grade • space efficient • produce up to four times the amount of electricity as thin-film solar panels • longest warranty: up to 25 years

Monocrystalline Cons • most expensive • efficiency decreases if covered with shade, dirt or snow the entire circuit can break down

Polycrystalline Pros • manufacturing process is simpler and cost less

Polycrystalline Cons • lower silicon purity yields lower efficiency • lower space-efficiency • need to cover a larger surface to output same electrical power as monocrystalline • not aesthetically pleasing because of speckled blue color

Thin-Film Solar Cells Pros • simple cheap mass production • homogenous appearance makes them more aesthetically pleasing • can be made flexible • high temperature and shading have less impact on solar panel performance

Thin-Film Solar Cells Cons • generally not very useful in most residential situations • requires a large amount of space • best used on solar farms • tend to degrade faster than mon- and poly
