For the week of February 12, 2017 Scripture: Big Idea:
John 14 “The Power Within Me” – The Holy Spirit, Part 2 The same power that raised Christ from the dead dwells with us!
1. Describe the best counselor you’ve ever had. What was unique about this person?
2. Describe your understanding, experience, and interaction with the Holy Spirit throughout your life.
3. Read John 14:15-17. Jesus uses the term “Paraclete,” meaning the Advocate, Counselor, or Comforter. What does this indicate about His ministry?
4. In verse 17, Jesus states that the Spirit will be “in you.” Why is this truth so important? How have you experienced the power of the Holy Spirit “in you?”
5. Read Romans 8:9-11. Why is it important to yield to the control of the Holy Spirit in our lives? How do you do that? Are you yielding to His guidance and control in your life?
6. Paul writes: “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.” What does it mean that “He will give life to our mortal bodies”?
7. Read John 14:21-24 and 1 John 5:3-4. What seems to be the connection between love and obedience in these passages? What is the role of the Holy Spirit in this?
8. How can you learn to more deeply rely on the Holy Spirit’s power and control in your life? What changes might this yield in your life? Spend some of your prayer time praising God for the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in your life.
