For the week of May 14, 2017 Scripture: 1 John 4 “Heartless God” Big Idea: God is both just and loving. 1. Has the issue of suffering and/or evil in the world had a large impact on your faith? Why or why not?

2. Suppose someone asked you, “Why does God allow bad or evil things to happen?” Where would your conversation go?

3. How do you react to personal injustices? Injustice on a global scale? Where do you think we get our sense of justice?

4. Read 1 John 4:7-12. What is John highlighting about God’s character? How is that different from the pagan/ancient near east view of “the gods?”

5. What does this aspect of God’s character mean for our lives? What does John mean when he writes, “His love is made complete in us?” How can we better love people in and through their suffering?

6. Read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10. How have you experienced this truth in your times of suffering or weakness?

7. Read Acts 2:22-23 and 4:27-28. How do the justice and love of God come together at the cross? What daily impact does this have on you?

8. Read Psalm 103:6-12. How have you experienced these truths in your relationship with the Lord? During your prayer time, be sure to praise Him for His steadfast love in your life.
