TERM 2 WEEK
8
Welcome to Week 8! Bowen River Rodeo is over for another year. Thank you to all the staff and parents who helped us out on Saturday at the gate and canteen. It was a long day for some of us but your generosity in giving up your time will benefit St John Bosco in a big way! I'm really proud of the way people just dig in and do things when it involves the children. Thank you so much! I should be receiving some drawings regarding the redevelopment of the Prep playground this week. I will bring them to the Parent Forum next Tuesday so parents can have a look before we go ahead with the final plan. I hope to complete this project before the end of Term 3. Just a reminder that Saturday Soccer will not be on this week. The final week of soccer will be on June 20. We will then have AFL at Scottville next Term. Our Athletics Carnival will be on Thursday July 16. Sorry for any confusion when the menu came out and had a June date. The inter school carnival will be on Friday July 24. The 200m and 800m races will be held at Collinsville State School on Thursday July 23 commencing at 8:30am. Please make a note of these dates to avoid any confusion. Parents are most welcome to these events. Di Carroll has created some awesome signs for the school. They include our expectations and a school sign. These will be erected on the fence facing the main street. I hope this will occur in the next week. They will add so much to our already attractive school. Thank you so much Di for a wonderful job! We had a celebrity visit SJB this week when my wife, Sharon made an appearance on Tuesday. I think the children found it hard to believe she was real but showed her a real SJB welcome! Sharon made the comment how great the school was and how happy the children were. We are part of a very special school. Thank you for allowing me to lead this great community. I am very grateful and humble to do so. We have worked very hard this Term and are looking forward to the holidays ahead of us. We still have a couple of weeks left and need to keep working hard on the little things that make a difference each day. A simple smile, a wave, thank you, please, your welcome. These all make a difference. We need to use them though otherwise we create a community that doesn't care about each other. Let's make sure we become makers not breakers. What are you? Have a great week, Take care,
*

What’s Happening in Year 1/2 Year 1/2 superheroes have been working so hard this term! We have been enjoying art where we are learning about how different colours help us feel different emotions. We have read some really sad books and some really happy books! Kerri has helped us so much in the library with this activity and we have loved it! We have been working hard in maths learning all about addition and subtraction. In History we have been learning about the tragic mining accident that happened on the 13th of October 1954. We wrote short narratives where we pretended we were one of the seven miners. We drew amazing portraits to go with our narratives where we used all the colours that reminded us of how the miners would have felt; sad, scared and frightened. Here is a sample of George Paske’s narrative: “One the day of the accident I felt worried. I was running and I thought I was a goner. I was hoping my friends were ok. When I heard the alarm bell go off I didn’t know what to do….when I found my mates I asked Miller “have you six found a way out?” “not yet” he replied.” Semester 1 has been so busy for us, and we are having the best time learning! Thank you for all the support this semester. Under 8’s Rainbow Song
