Considerations: Explain to students that when comparing the heights of two objects, use the words shorter and taller. When comparing the heights of three or more objects, use the words shortest and tallest.
Steps:

1. Put the objects in order from the shortest to the tallest. 2. Compare the first object to the second object. 3. Compare the second object to the third object. 4. Indirectly compare the first object with the third object.

The desk is shorter than the bookcase.
