Today, I will name, identify, and describe a plane shape.
Vocabulary
Notes
Plane shapes: Shapes that have a flat surface and are closed. They can have sides and vertices. Vertex: the common point where two lines meet; a corner. Vertices: more than one vertex Hexagon: a flat, closed, 6-sided shape with 6 vertices
Trapezoid: a flat, closed, 4-sided shape with 4 vertices
Circle: a flat, closed, 0-sided shape with no vertices. A half circle is half of a circle. A quarter circle is half of half of a circle.
Right angle: a 90˚ angle formed by two perpendicular lines
1. Trace the circle. Divide the circle into halves. Then divide the circle into quarter circles.
2. Use the shapes traced in SGP. Which shape is a trapezoid? How do you know? Which shape is a hexagon? How do you know?
Recap today’s lesson with one or more of the following MP questions: MP1: How did you prove your answers? MP3: How does that drawing support your work? MP4: How can you relate this to something in real life?
