Approval of Minutes  The minutes of the May Vestry meeting were approved.

Rector’s Report Staffing  Page Lea reviewed the Rector’s report in Father Andy’s absence. With the transition of the assistant student minister to Galilee Montessori School, Student Ministries is in serious need of lay volunteers to assist with activities and events. The Cove  Renovations to the Cove in the Student Ministries area are underway. Henry Conde and Marty O’Rourke were commended for their design work on the project.

Senior Warden’s Report Housing Resolution  Page Lea presented a Resolution for Housing Allowance for associate rector Father Patrick Bush. Page clarified that the resolution, including the housing allowance amount, are within acceptable guidelines when a parish provides a residence for clergy.  A motion to approve the housing allowance was made, seconded, and carried. The resolution is on file in the Parish Administrator’s office. Media Events  Vestry discussed the letter to the parish from the Senior Warden regarding the recent trial of a former Galilee employee. Vestry agreed that any inquiries on the church’s position on past and current events should refer to the Senior Warden’s letter.  Vestry reviewed the current safeguards in place including background checks and Safe Church training administered by the diocese and required of all employees and volunteers.

The church website will be updated to inform parishioners and the community on the hiring and volunteer orientation process regarding a safe church environment.

Beautification Award  Henry Conde accepted the Virginia Beach Beautification Commission institutional award on behalf of Galilee Church at a dinner at Princess Anne Country Club. Audio/Visual Equipment Status  Over the last three years, the audio/visual equipment has been upgraded in Tucker Hall, Jordan Hall, and the sanctuary. Work continues on simplifying the control panel to allow easier troubleshooting and use by people of varying skill levels.  Suggestions were made to have presenters check the process and equipment prior to use at least one hour in advance and to have sextons readily available to correct any problems encountered.

Junior Warden’s Report Cavalier Property Wall  Hunter Folck presented the Junior Warden’s report. Cavalier Associates has requested a threemonth extension to the right-of-way adjacent to the new parking spaces. Galilee is looking into why the construction of the brick wall between the properties has been delayed. Selden Hall Property Line  A title search revealed that Galilee did deed a section of land to Selden Hall for a walkway. Pins have been placed so that a fence can be constructed on Galilee’s property with the agreement of both Galilee and Selden Hall’s owner’s association.

Treasurer’s Report Monthly Financial Results  Page Lea presented the Treasurer’s report, noting that pledges year-to-date are up to date with the budget and that there are no large variances to the budget on expenses to date.

Old Business Lay Delegates to Annual Council  A slate of delegates to annual council was proposed and the following parishioners were elected by Vestry as lay delegates for the 2017-2018 council year: Page Miyares Annabelle Stiffler Robbie Berndt Bill Barns Galilee Page  Page Miyares presented an updated version of the Galilee page. Functions have been categorized by Staff, Stewardship, and Mission with groups and ministries aligned under Renewing You, Renewing Our City, and Renewing the World. Groups have been updated to reflect the current leadership. Mentoring  Discussion of mentoring was postponed until Father Andy’s return.

New Business Women of Galilee Outreach  Molly Rueger presented a report on the Women of Galilee Outreach Giving for 2017. Funds raised through Galilee Gifts and Books and the Harvest Bazaar were used to support 18 charitable organizations.  The suggestion was made that the Women of Galilee publicize the groups they support through outreach and that the Women of Galilee, the Men of Galilee, and the Missions Committee coordinate their efforts so that each knows the Church’s overall level of support to each organization.  The Women of Galilee were commended for the extent of their outreach and Lindsay McCaw was praised for her help in organizing the outreach efforts. Wedding Guild  The Wedding Guild was recognized for the work they do in orchestrating a wonderful experience for the wedding party, family and guests.

Growing Young  Jodie Berndt led the discussion of chapter 5 of Growing Young, which emphasized the need for warm, authentic relationships with youth and emerging adults. Concerns working against warmth in a church included too many programs, weak program structure, and a less-than family feeling among youth.  Strategies discussed included small groups, mentoring, and intergenerational activities perhaps centered around bible study, meals, and sports. The proposal was made to form a subcommittee to explore possibilities.  Chapter 6 will be discussed at the next Vestry meeting.

Adjournment

The business meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm prior to Faith Sharing.
