HONEY DEW MELON
Here’s how to slice and dice a fresh honey dew melon. Use as a snack or appetizer, in salads, as an ingredient in another dish, and as dessert. No need to wash because you cannot eat the rind (the rind is the skin or peel). ______1.
Get honey dew. Get cutting board. Get knife. Get spoon. Get melon ball scoop.* Get a fresh honey dew melon, a clean cutting board, a clean, sharp knife, a clean spoon and a clean melon ball scoop.
______2.
Cut in half. Put the honey dew melon on to the cutting the board, stem to the side, and, using the knife, cut the honey dew in half.
______3.
Scrape out seeds. Using the spoon, scrape out all of the seeds on the inside of the two honey dew halves. Some chefs serve these honey dew halves, occasionally filling them with other fruits, cottage cheese, etc. Throw away the seeds.
______4.
Cut larger pieces. To cut larger pieces, use the knife to cut each honey dew half into four to six fairly equal sized pieces.
______5.
Decision. Do not cut off rind. If not cutting off the rind (and many chefs make this choice), serve these larger pieces of honey dew with the rind on.

______5A. Decision. Careful! Cut off rind. To cut off the rind, hold each honey dew piece with your one hand. Using your other hand and the knife, slide the blade between the melon and the rind all the way across, until the melon is cut away. This is very tricky. Throw away the rind. ______6.
Scoop bite sized pieces. To get smaller, bite sized pieces, use the melon ball scoop after scraping out the seeds in step 3.
