Volume 2, Issue No. 8 Mar. 2016
FAMILY, FANS, ALUMNI & FRIENDS: This issue of the Insider comes to you as we have passed the half way point of our Spring competition season. Two good showings so far for the Warriors. On March 12th the Warriors hosted Lourdes College and Alma College for a three team scrimmage. Although no scores were kept, and all three teams split their squads into multiple teams—the Warriors looked good on both courts! Just before Easter, the Warriors travelled to EMU and did a cooperative practice with the Eagles. Drills and some live games were played, with the Warriors competing well. The Warriors top lineup was able to win its set with EMU, 25-16 during the live play portion of the practice. With two competition dates remaining, WSU looks to gam momentum from the positive work so far. Come see for yourself—WSU hosts a Spring Invitational on April 2nd in the Matthaei, and travels to Premier Academy in Toledo on April 9th. Hope you can make it out! Fall 2016 Schedule Announced The Wayne State University volleyball team has announced the schedule for the 2016 season. The campaign includes 13 home matches. "We did a couple things with the 2016 schedule. First we are happy to be bringing back the WSU Invitational. It always great to play at home and we have a good field of competition from some different areas of the country. The second thing we did was focus on increasing the number of matches against regional competition on our schedule. The NCAA selection criteria is putting an emphasis on winning within your region so eight of our eleven non-conference matches will be against opponents from within the Midwest Region. We hope this will help our resume at selection time." The Warriors open the season at the UIS Capitol Classic on Sept. 2-3 against William Jewell, Ohio Valley, Upper Iowa and Illinois Springfield. For the first time since 2009, the program will host the WSU Invitational. The two-day event will feature 10 total matches inside the Matthaei. Wayne State will host West Virginia Wesleyan, Seton Hill, Saint Joseph's and Northwood (non-conference).
The Warrior Limelight:
Home league opponents include Tiffin, Ashland, Saginaw Valley State, Lake Superior State, Findlay, Grand Valley State, Ferris State and Walsh. The Green & Gold will once again participate in the Midwest Regional Crossover in Aurora, Ill. All home games will be on Warrior All-Access and fans can follow via live stats.
