GAME NOTES
OPENING TIP Gettysburg looks to keep its unbeaten record intact against Swarthmore College today. ALL-TIME SERIES Gettysburg leads the all-time series with Swarthmore 26-8. The Bullets have won each of the last four meetings and 13 of the last 15 since the 200506 campaign. Each of the last five contests has been decided by nine points or less. LAST MEETING Swarthmore closed a 10-point halftime deficit down to one with just over five minutes to play, but Gettysburg ran off eight-straight points to help clinch a 55-47 victory inside Bream Gym last January. The Garnet closed to 39-38 following a pair of free throws by Katie Lytle before Caroline Murphy ’14 connected on a three-pointer to start the run. Murphy scored 11 of her 15 points in the second half, while Rianna Doane ’14 finished with a dozen points. Sara Graham ’17 added eight points and five rebounds off the bench. LAST TIME OUT Gettysburg held off Ursinus for a 56-47 victory on Wednesday. The Bears trimmed a double-figure halftime deficit down to one midway through the final period before Gettysburg pulled away by converting at the free throw line. The Bullets hit 10 consecutive free throws late in the contest to help seal the victory. Emily Duggan ’16 tied a career high with 15 points, wihle Emily Gibbons ’18 and Samantha Pagel ’15 posted 13 and 12 points, respectively. Freshman Annie Reilly ’18 added eight rebounds, four assists, and a pair of blocks. CC PRESEASON POLL Gettysburg was picked to finish fith in the Centennial Conference Preseason Poll. The selection marks the Bullets’ eighth-straight season with a top-five billing heading into the year. Gettysburg has qualified for the postseason in eight of the last 10 seasons. Johns Hopkins (149 points) was the preseason favorite, edging defending champion Haverford (144).
DEFENSIVE STANCE Gettysburg held Ursinus to 27.7 percent shooting from the field. The Bullets have held their last two foes below 30 percent shooting and the team rates first in the Centennial in opponent field-goal percentage defense at 29.6 percent. Gettysburg led all of Division III in opponent field-goal percentage defense at 28.6 percent in 2012-13. FINISHING STRONG AT THE LINE The Bullets were just 5-of-12 at the free throw line before hitting 10 in a row against Ursinus. Gettysburg finished 17-of-26 at the charity stripe against the Bears. STRONG START Senior Samantha Pagel has reached double-figures in each of her last two games, totaling 29 points. It is the most points Pagel has scored in back-to-back games, topping the 26 she put up in consecutive outings against Muhlenberg and Haverford last season. She leads the CC in field goal percentage (75 percent) and she ranks second only to Swarthmore’s Elle Larsen in free throws made per game (4.3). SCOUTING SWARTHMORE... Swarthmore finished seventh in the Centennial Conference last season with an 8-10 record. The Garnet finished 13-11 overall. Swarthmore was also picked to finish seventh in this year’s CC Preseason Poll. The Garnet suffered a 30-point loss at Muhlenberg on Wednesday. The Mules attacked the glass for 56 rebounds and out-scored Swarthmore 40-12 in the paint. Senior Elle Larsen has emerged as one of the top players in the conference. A two-time All-CC Second Team pick, Larsen paces the conference in scoring at 22.3 points per game. She also ranks second in the league in rebounding at 10.3 per game. Larsen has dropped 25 points in each of her last two outings.
