match notes
Opening Kick Gettysburg and Ursinus clash today in a battle of Centennial Conference playoff contenders. The Series The Bullets dominated the series early, going without a loss (9-0-1) in the first 10 decisions, but the squad has taken down the Bears just once since 2005 (1-3-2). Last Meeting There were plenty of attempts by both teams at scoring a goal last fall, but none found the mark in a scoreless draw. The two teams combined for 26 shots and 10 corner kicks in the match as the two keepers combined for 14 saves, including eight by Gettysburg’s Allie Rivera. Among the Bullets’ 11 shots at the cage, Jordann Smak and Sam Hellerman each fired off two. Last Time Out Gettysburg went on the road to beat Franklin & Marshall 3-0 on Tuesday. Sophomore back Suzy Englot scored her first collegiate goal and dished out her second assist of the fall via a corner kick. Her pass found Mallory Sheer for the freshman’s first collegiate score. Sam Hellerman added her fourth goal of the year in the 75th minute, tying her for the team lead. Allie Rivera earned the shutout by making three saves. CC Preseason Poll Gettysburg was predicted to finish sixth in the Centennial Conference this fall. The Bullets aren’t far behind the top five, trailing Muhlenberg by four points and Haverford by two. Five-time champ Johns Hopkins was selected as the conference favorite.
Revving Up the Offense As a team, Gettysburg has already posted 24 goals, 21 assists, and 69 points this fall - all numbers that top each of the previous three seasons in half as many matches. The Bullets have scored three goals four times this season, just one shy of its total from the previous three seasons combined.

Take Your Pick Thirteen Bullets have put a tally in the scorebook this season. That’s the most players to reach the scoring column since 2005 when an equal number found the back of the net. Additionally, six different Bullets have notched the game-winning score on the year. Unsung Seniors Seniors Sarah Yeager and Jordann Smak don’t grab a lot of headlines or score a lot of goals, but they factor into every Gettysburg win, loss, and tie. Smak has played 61 of a possible 63 matches in her career, while Yeager has started each of the last 54 contests. Both players have collected hardware with Smak earning Academic All-District selection and Yeager twice earning All-Centennial Conference accolades. Scouting Ursinus... Ursinus is coming off a 5-1 victory at Bryn Mawr Tuesday night. The Bears have shutout four opponents this fall and two of its three losses have come by just one goal, including a 2-1 setback in overtime to Dickinson last weekend. Alex Shivers lit the lamp twice and added an assist against Bryn Mawr. Jess Porcelan scored her teamleading sixth goal of the year in the match, while Ursinus used a quartet of goalies in the shutout. Kara DiJoseph has played the most minutes in goal for the Bears, logging a 0.87 GAA and .872 save percentage.
