OPENING FACE-OFF Gettysburg faces off with the 16th-ranked Ursinus College Bears this afternoon in a key Centennial Conference showdown, as the two squads enter today’s game tied for first in the conference standings. Today’s contest is also a rematch of last year’s Centennial Conference championship game and the second-round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. SENIOR DAY Today’s game marks the next-to-last regular-season home appearance for Gettysburg’s six seniors, who will be recognized in a brief ceremony before the start of today’s game. 1976 TEAM TO BE RECOGNIZED At halftime of today’s game, a brief ceremony will be held to recognize the 1976 Gettysburg men’s lacrosse team, which is celebrating the 40th anniversary of becoming the first team in program history to win a conference title. Coached by Joe Donolli, the Bullets finished 11-4 and a perfect 7-0 in league play to capture the Middle Atlantic Conference crown. ALL-TIME SERIES The Bullets lead Ursinus 15-0 in the all-time series that started in 2003. LAST TIME OUT Sophomore Tim Brady ’18 made 13 saves and the Bullets used another stellar defensive effort to win their sixth game in a row, earning a 9-4 victory at Dickinson College this past Wednesday. Gettysburg held the Red Devils to one goal each quarter, and its defensive line of senior Geoff Davis, senior Bill McAvoy, and sophomore Cullen Minion posted two ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece. Defensive midfielders Chris Palladino and Ryan Kelly added four ground balls apiece while senior
LAST SEASON WITH URSINUS Gettysburg and Ursinus played three incredibly close games last season, with the Bullets winning all three. In the regular season, Gettysburg earned a 9-7 victory at Ursinus behind seven saves from Tim Brady and two goals and one assist from Jimmy Morris ’15. The Bullets went on to capture an 11-10 win in the Centennial Conference championship game, when Brady made 15 saves en route to being named the tournament MVP. Sean Fumai registered four goals and one assist for the Bullets while Brian Neff made 11 saves for Ursinus. The two sides met again in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament and Gettysburg captured another nailbiter, winning 10-9 in double overtime on a goal from Paul Werner. Brendan Morris ’15 poured in four goals and one assist to lead the Bullets while Neff made 16 saves for the Bears, who erased an early 6-2 deficit. STINGY DEFENSE Gettysburg enters today’s contest with the top-ranked defense in the Centennial Conference, posting a goalsagainst average of 6.00. The Bullets have held their opponents to a single-digit goal total in all but one game, and have yielded only 14 goals over four games since beginning Centennial Conference play. Sophomore goalie Tim Brady leads the conference with a 6.29 GAA while junior long-stick midfielder Chris Palladino ranks among the conference leaders in caused turnovers (22, tied-fourth) and ground balls (44, tied-sixth). BALANCED OFFENSE The Bullets have received a balanced offensive effort, with five different players scoring 10 or more goals. Senior Jameson Smith leads the team with 20 tallies while freshman Blake Gray (18), senior Paul Werner (17), and senior Mike Distler (16) are close behind. Freshman Tommy Heller has added 12 goals while Distler and Smith have led the team in assists with 13 apiece.
