Description: For Secondary Teacher user types who grade assignments by ‘Overall Grade and Standards’, Grade Book can now calculate overall student grades from standards data. Additionally, the Standards Summary screen has been enhanced. This screen displays each standard that has been assessed in the current class and displays the classroom performance, by standard. Steps: 1. To enable Standards Mode in Grade Book, navigate to Grade Book Setup. Click on the Standards tab. In the Standards Proficiency group box: • Click Turn on Grade Book Standards Mode. • Select the calculation method used to determine proficiency. Options include Power Law, Highest Score, Last Score, Mean, and Median.
2. In the Final Mark by Standards group box: • Select ‘I want my overall grades to be determined from Standards’ to use standards scores to calculate overall grades, rather than assignment scores. This option is only available to Secondary Teacher user types within Grade Book, at this time. • Select the grading periods to locate standard results in, when calculating the overall grade by standards for a grading period. Options include ‘Only Assignments/Standards from the current grading period’ and ‘All Assignments/Standards from the current school year’.

Edupoint Technical Notification 3. On Grade Book Main, select ‘Standards’ from the Mode dropdown to switch to Standards Mode. Grade Book Data will now appear aggregated by standard, rather than by assignment. Scores shown for each standard will be the calculated average of all assignments graded by standard using the calculation method selected in Grade Book Setup. Assignments not graded ‘Overall Grade and Standards’ will not be calculated in these results.
4. Scores can be entered by standard when in Standards Mode. To grade a standard, click on the standard header and select ‘Enter Scores’. The Enter Scores screen opens.

Edupoint Technical Notification 5. Click on the standards ‘drawer’ to display assignments/scores tied to this standard. Scores can only be entered/saved for assignments, not for the standard itself. If scores are entered for the standard, they will be overwritten upon save with the actual calculated grade based on assignment scores tied to the standard. Exclude, Hide in Portal, Comment, and Note functionality does not currently exist in Standards Mode.
6. The students’ overall grade will now reflect the grade calculated from standard results, when ‘I want my overall grades to be determined from Standards’ is selected (step 2 above). The Standards Summary screen has been enhanced (please see ETNGB_20111221_A22961_GradeBook_Standards_Mode for configuration information). The Standards Summary screen displays each standard that has been assessed within the currently selected class, the number of assignments, and the average class score by standard. To view standard details, click the standard.

Edupoint Technical Notification 2. The Standard Detail screen opens. This screen displays each student and all assignments tied to the standard. Scores are displayed using the standards aggregation method defined in Grade Book Setup (Power Law, Highest Score, Lowest Score, Median, or Mean).
3. To create a Grade Book Breakout class for selected students focused on this standard, click the next to the desired student’s name or use the Auto Select functionality to select student within a range of scores.
4. Click the Create Breakout Class button to access the Manage Classes screen and finish the class creation process.
