“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” - Theodore Roosevelt Announcements: 1. Saturday Activities: We will conduct our mid-semester CFA on Saturday, 19 October. This CFA is an excellent opportunity to check your progress, and see which events you need to focus on as you continue to prepare for your record CFA in late November. We will begin the CFA at 0630 with Alpha Section, followed by Bravo Section at 0715. We will conduct Leader Training and Character Development following the CFA at 0945 in Ballroom #1 of the CCAC. Students will wear classroom attire for Leader Training and Character Development. 2. Squad Leader Rotation: The next Squad Leader rotation occurs on Monday, 21 October. Outgoing Squad Leaders will facilitate a smooth transition with their replacements, ensuring that new Squad Leaders understand all procedures and responsibilities. 3. Academy Contact and Visits: If you have not done so already, now is the time to coordinate and schedule visits to the academies during Christmas Break (12 December – 13 January) or Spring Break (10 – 14 March). These breaks are perfect opportunities to visit the academies without missing classes here at Schreiner. A visit to an academy should include an appointment with the admissions office. Face-to-face meetings can pay off in the application process. Students who are interested in competing in intercollegiate athletics should also be in contact with the coaches at the academies. Having the interest of a coach who is willing to be your advocate with the admissions office is Page 1 of 4

beneficial as well. You should not waste these opportunities to enhance your chances of earning an appointment. 4. Managing Competing Requirements: Remember that academics account for 60% or your admittance into the academies. If you have a conflict between an office visit with your professor, a recitation, a study group or an appointment with a tutor with your daily PT hour, community service or watch duties, work it out. Trade your watch with a teammate so you can make the academic appointment. Figure out how you can get in that hour of PT: exercise in your foyer at 0600 or do a work out at the Mountaineer Center at 2200. Also, remember to help your classmates when they come and ask you to switch duties.

Reminders: 1. Lost & Found Box: The box in the Lounge is overflowing with clothes, class notes, binders, school

supplies and a West Point water canister. Claim your stuff. 2. Campus Chapel: A reminder from our Campus Chaplain, the Reverend Gini Norris-Lane, that the Campus Chapel is open 24/7 for quiet meditation and prayer.

Recognition: We would like to thank Colonel Mark Johnson for his presentation to the Greystone class on Thursday evening. We would also like to recognize the class for their professional appearance and conduct. The students looked sharp, and asked some very insightful questions during the presentation. During the reception, the students made Colonel Johnson and his wife feel welcome and presented themselves in a professional, mature and confident manner. Colonel and Mrs. Johnson were incredibly impressed with our students, and the event was a success. Job well done!
