"History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid." ~ General Dwight D. Eisenhower Announcements: 1. Presidential Nomination Meeting: For the students who are eligible for Presidential nomination, we will meet during Study Hall at 1900 in the group study room for a brief meeting to discuss status of Presidential nominations. Please bring with you all required documentation (for example your parent’s DD214). If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Bailey prior to the meeting. 2. Friday Board of Directors Meeting: The Greystone Board of Directors will meet on campus this Friday (20 September). Therefore, students will wear Visitor Attire that day. There will be no Blue Jean Friday this week. 3. Murder Board: The first Murder Board will take place this Friday beginning at 1400 in the
Greystone Board Room. CAPT Vortmann will arrange a time two days before each Board for the four interviewees to meet for a dress rehearsal (coat and tie, shined shoes, fresh haircuts, clean shave, etc). At that time, each will be given a time to be in the Lounge on stand-by waiting to be called for interviewing. You each have received sample questions that may be used by COL Crum and the four interviewers each Murder Board. Should you be asked any unique questions in upcoming interviews, pass them along to the Captain for distribution to all teammates. Once in the interview room, you will be introduced to the Board and you'll go around the room shaking hands with each interviewer. This is your first impression. Make it a strong one, looking each person directly in the eye. Have a firm handshake. Go to the one vacant chair and wait until you're asked to be seated by the Colonel who will then explain the purpose of the Murder Board -- to help prepare you for your interview to earn your nomination, your appointment and beyond. He will then ask you to tell the Board about yourself (where you're from, your Academy of choice, etc). This is your "elevator Page 1 of 5
speech." Make it short and succinct -- practice it with your suite mates. Be prepared for the basic questions: a. Why have you selected your particular Academy? What would you do if you are offered an appointment to another? b. What is the mission of your Academy? What will your major be? If you have a couple of poor grades, be prepared to tell the Board what you're doing to improve. If you have a 4.0, be prepared to explain what you're doing to help your team mates without the 4.0. Look the person asking the question directly in the eye. When responding, continue looking at him/her for a few moments, but then engage the other interviewers by looking at each of them, returning your eyes to the original questioner as you're completing your answer. At the conclusion of the interview, the Colonel will ask you to step outside the room while the Board critiques your interview. You'll then be called back in to hear the critique from each interviewer. Upon the end of the interview, you'll again go around the table, shaking hands and thanking them for their time, their help, and/or their interest in your future career. 4. Saturday Activities: Three key events occur on Saturday (21 September), including an ACT exam, a visit by Major Yang (USMA Southwest Regional Commander), and a class meal at Mrs. Spikes’ house. A detailed timeline is included in the daily schedule below. Key information for each event is as follows: a. ACT Exam: The ACT exam begins at 0800 in the Weir Academic Building on campus. Consult the time schedule below for a detailed timeline of events leading up to the exam. The night prior, Study Hall will conclude early to ensure all students are in bed no later than 2200. During Study Hall, the chain of command, supervised by the sophomores, will check to ensure students have the necessary items for the exam, including a photo ID, the admissions ticket, two #2 pencils with good erasers, approved calculator, a watch and snacks. Students will bring all of these items to Study Hall on Friday night to be checked and verified. On Saturday morning, students will conduct a lite PT session, eat breakfast tacos (as coordinated by the Logistics Officer), and will be assembled in front of the dorm with all necessary items. Of note, students will not bring cell phones to the exam. After all necessary items are checked again by the class leadership and verified by the sophomores, students will depart to the Weir Building. Students will wear summer session casual attire to the exam. b. Major Yang’s Visit: Major Yang, who serves as the USMA Southwest Regional Commander, will visit Greystone on Saturday afternoon, arriving at 1300. Following a briefing and tour conducted by the Greystone staff, Major Yang will meet with all AOG-sponsored students in Ballroom #1 at 1430. At 1500, all other Greystone students applying to West Point as their first choice, and others who are interested, will meet with Major Yang in Ballroom #1 (AOG-sponsored students will remain). Students meeting with Major Yang will wear visitor attire. c. Dinner at Mrs. Spikes’ House: At 1600, all students will assemble in front of the dorm for departure to Mrs. Spikes’ house for a class meal. Students will wear summer session casual attire for this event. Students will have access to the river, so students can wear swimwear with shorts and tee-shirt for the trip out to her house. Bring a change of clothes and towel if you plan to swim.

5. First Tee Departure Time: From this point forward, First Tee support groups will depart at 1645 each Tuesday and Wednesday (or as soon as students return from their classes that end at 1650 on Wednesdays).
Reminders: 1. ACT Exam Preparation: For those who've never taken the ACT, or those who want to brush up on techniques, visit the Army-sponsored ACT/SAT on-line preparation program at march2success.com. Registration is free. There are several practice ACT exams available. Have a look and prepare for the test. 2. Fall Break Camping Trip: For those Greystoners who are not leaving the area, CDR Bailey will be taking all interested campers to either Enchanted Rock State Park or Lost Maples State Park. For those who are just wanting to get away from campus and relax, we will be manning a “Base Camp” and for those interested in hiking and camping along the trail, there will be an opportunity to do some backpacking in the scenic Texas Hill Country. If you are interested in joining the fun, let CDR Bailey know ASAP! 3. Coaching Opportunity: Students with experience in wrestling have an opportunity to volunteer to assist with coaching a local youth wrestling program. LTC Reichert will provide additional details following Leadership Training on Saturday.
