Questions based upon the sermon November 6 Title: SEXUALITY (Series: Hot Topics)

Text: 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Discussion Questions: 1.

Pastor Mark shared his perspective that the foundation stones of a healthy society are: FAITH, FAMILY, and INTEGRITY. In your lifetime, what changes have you witnessed in regards to these three 'stones'? What other 'stone' do you think or feel is needed for a society to be strong and stable?

2.

Read Romans 1:24-27. In V25 it reads: (NIV) "They exchanged the truth about God for a lie..." What was the "lie" being identified by the writer (Paul)?

3.

There is substantial scientific data [evidence] to debunk the falsehood that same sex attraction (SSA) can be directly associated with genetics (i.e. a person is born LGB). Why is the science of 'attraction' ignored or dismissed by so many people?

4.

SEXUAL SIN is in unique category because it is a sin against God and a sin against one's body, and in most cases, is a sin against another person. 1 Corinthians 6:18 (NLT) reads, "Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body." The data, from places like the Center for Disease Control (CDC), clearly and convincingly conveys the fact that same sex activity leads to a significantly disproportionate danger or risk of getting a lifethreatening disease. Why do you think or feel that this data is not more broadly discussed?

5.

Knowing the dangers and risks associated with same sex activities should not lead us to contempt, but to compassion. Mark said: "It should drive us to care more for them than our culture does." How can the Church and Christians convey compassion for the LGBT community?

6.

Read Psalm 11. It is possible that issues related to homosexuality will become THE lightning rod for the persecution of Christians in the USA over the next few years, as laws are changed that are contrary to Judeo-Christian values and religious freedom is increasingly restricted. What hope do you find in this chapter as we see that the "foundations are being destroyed" (NIV)?

Two Prayer Points: One, allow time for personal/private reflection. Ask the Lord to reveal to you any sin that may be hindering your relationship with God. If the Holy Spirit convicts you of something, confess, repent, and accept God's forgiveness. Two, (with no names being mentioned) pray for immediate & extended family members, close friends, and coworkers, dealing with same sex attraction. Ask that God's kindness would lead them to repentance (Romans 2:4).
