Harwood International Center

Harwood International Center is a multiphased mixed-use development adjacent to the Dallas Central Business District. The project revitalized the deteriorated Oakwood District with public gardens that complement the architecture while providing spaces for large events, small groups, and quiet reflection. An urban roof garden serves as the primary public area within the development, incorporating a large reflection pool, secret gardens, and a bowling green, all organized as a series of contrasting and complimentary subgardens of various scales and functions. The garden features direct bridge connections to three adjacent office buildings, indirect connections to the residential tower and art museum, and one direct connection with the street to invite public access and use. In addition to providing an urban retreat, the garden’s extensive tree canopy, cooling water, and nonreflective ground plane also minimizes heat-island effect. SWA Group: www.swagroup.com
