PLEASE NOTE IMPORTANT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES ABSENCES/ATTENDANCE:

If your child is absent or late, please call the office at 620-465-2501 before 9:00 a.m. and provide a reason for the absence. If no permissible reason is given, the absence will be recorded as unexcused. Messages can be left on our voice mail system during non-school hours. If your child needs to be released early for an appointment or other reason, please contact the office in advance. Please sign him/her out at the office and we will call the classroom to release your child.

LUNCH GUEST PROCEDURES

You are always welcome to visit the cafeteria and eat lunch with your child. Please notify HGS of your visit as far in advance as possible. At least a 24 hour advance notice is required.

USD 312 LUNCH POLICY:

If a child does not have money in his or her lunch account, they will be allowed to charge a meal one time during the school year. The same day the meal is charged, the office staff will call the parent to inform them of the lack of funds in the account. For the remainder of the year, the student will be provided an alternate meal at any time there is no money in his/ her account. (Example: Cheese or Peanut Butter Sandwich and Milk) Powerschool Parent Access is an awesome tool for checking your child’s lunch balance. You can even set up e-mail reminders when your child’s balance is getting low. Also, with our new E-Funds program families can pay lunches electronically with a debit/credit card or checking account. Please let the office know if you have any questions.

END OF DAY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE:

Students who ride the bus are dismissed at 3:20. All children NOT riding the bus will not be dismissed until all buses have pulled away from the school (around 3:30). Please avoid the bus loading area and wait outside for your children to be dismissed.

BUS RULES:

*Your student will have one a.m. bus stop and one p.m. bus stop. These may or may not be the same location. Changes must be submitted 3 school days prior to change. *If you are requesting busing to a location other than students home, permission may be granted if room is available on that bus. *Busing will not be used to transport students to other students homes for birthday parties, sleepovers, etc. *The office MUST have a note or phone call when your child is not riding the bus. Otherwise, the child will be put on the bus. Please make every attempt to call the school by 2:30 p.m. to let us know of any transportation changes. This will alleviate confusion at bus time. The office MUST have a note or phone call from the parent when your child is not riding the bus home after school. UNLESS WE HAVE A NOTE OR PHONE CALL FROM THE PARENT, THE STUDENT WILL BE PUT ON THE BUS.

KANSAS STATE FAIR WEEK (Sept. 8-17) The fair is a major annual event. It’s a good time for families to be with one another and enjoy the “event” together. If it is not possible to have your visit to the fair in the evenings or on weekends and are planning to take them out during the school day, our request would be that you let your homeroom teacher know ahead of time so your children can have their homework assignments done before the absence. The office must receive a note or phone call in advance to avoid an unexcused absence.

Thank you to all the Grandparents and special people who joined us for Grandparent’s Day. Students and Grandparents enjoyed the time spent together while learning about past experiences and engaging in memorable activities. Thank you to our PTO who brought cookies and/or spent time helping with this wonderful event. Third Grader’s Leading a Spirit of Kindness “Kindness Revolution” The third grade classes are doing the Kindness Revolution “Pay it Forward” wristbands. They are proudly wearing a wristband until they receive or witness an act of kindness. Then they will pay it forward by giving the wristband and a card to that person. That person will wear the wristband until they see another person do an act of kindness and give the band to them and so on. The Pay it Forward program will encourage students to be responsible school citizens. LIVE IT. SEE IT. PAY IT FORWARD.
