“O, How He Loves You and Me” (verse 1) No. 513 O, how He loves you and me. O, how He loves you and me; He gave His life, what more could He give? O, how He loves you; O, how He loves me: O, how He loves you and me! (Printed by permission CCLI# 1307397)

PRELUDE TOLLING OF THE BELLS WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS The Lord be with you. And also with you. CHORAL INTROIT

“Praise Ye the Name”

*CALL TO WORSHIP One: All: One: All:

(based on Rom. 14:8-11) Doreen Droge Christ Jesus is Lord of the dead and the living. In life and in death, we belong to God. Here we stand before the Lord of all life. Let every knee bow, and every tongue sing praise!

*OPENING HYMN

“Glorious Is Thy Name”

No. 85

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION God our redeemer, we confess that we remain captivated by sin. You move heaven and earth to save us, but we are paralyzed by the overwhelming suffering of others. You are willing to forgive us again and again, but we are unwilling to extend forgiveness. Forgive us; liberate us! Let us be no longer bound by sin, but released, restored, and set free to worship and serve you in freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION RESPONSE

ASSURANCE OF PARDON (from Psalm 103: 1, 10-12) One: Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! All: He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities! One: For as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us! All: Thanks be to God! *RESPONSE

“Gloria Patri”

No. 623

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) The new life takes shape in a community in which all know that God loves and accepts them. They therefore accept themselves and love others, knowing that no one has any ground on which to stand, except God’s grace. The new life finds its direction in the life of Jesus. The teaching of apostles and prophets guides us in living this life, as the Christian community nurtures and equips us for our ministries. To be reconciled to God is to be sent into the world as his reconciling community. We are entrusted with God’s message of reconciliation and share his labor of healing the enmities which separate us from God and from each other. The church maintains continuity with the apostles and church leaders of all ages by faithful obedience to his call. (adapted from THE CONFESSION OF 1967) *HYMN

UNISON PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Holy Spirit, as the Scripture is read and proclaimed, blow through our hearts and minds with new insight. Transform us with your life-giving fire, that we may be instruments of your life-changing love. Amen.
