*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) Jesus announced the coming of God's kingdom and its hidden presence in the midst of the world's kingdoms. He taught his disciples to seek God's kingdom first. We believe Christ gives us and demands of us lives in pilgrimage toward God's kingdom. Our confidence and hope for ourselves and other people do not rest in the powers and achievements of this world, but in the coming and hidden presence of God's kingdom. Christ calls each of us to a life appropriate to that kingdom: to serve as he has served us; to take up our cross, risking the consequences of faithful discipleship; to walk by faith, not by sight, to hope for what we have not seen. (from A DECLARATION OF FAITH, 1977)

ASSURANCE OF PARDON (based on Psalm 62:8, 11 CEV) One: Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each one of your concerns. All: God is our place of safety. We will place our trust in him! One: I heard God say two things: “I am powerful, and I am very kind.” All: Thanks be to our God who keeps us safely in his love! *RESPONSE

MORNING PRAYERS Pastoral Prayer The Lord’s Prayer (debts and debtors)

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION Mighty and merciful God, you have called us to be your people and claimed us for your kingdom. We confess that we have not lived up to our calling. We have been captivated with our activities and have avoided your call to repent and believe. Lead us from our own concerns that we may follow your way. As you have chosen us and claimed us, give us new strength to choose Christ's way in this world. Make us faithful witnesses to the good news of your kingdom among us. Amen.

UNISON PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION Saving God, source of our lives, your Word is full of power and glory. Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us so that we may receive your grace and live as your beloved children; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
