Holland Township School’s Solar Energy Project

After years of working to find a way to bring more green resources into our school and save money for the school budget, our district has signed a contract called a Power Purchase Agreement with Solartricity, LLC. The main ideas of the contract are that Solartricity builds, maintains, and owns the solar field on their property that will supply at least 80% of our school’s power needs. (At the start of the contract it will be closer to 90%.) Holland Township School District agrees to purchase power from them at a reduced rate which saves us about $20, 000 per year. The contract lasts for 15 years. One of the exciting parts of the project is that the students will have a live monitor in the school to watch the amount of power generated and will be able to visit the solar field as a class trip. This agreement is another example of how the School Administration and the Board work to cut district costs in order to help us stay within the 2% School Budget Cap. Approximate Project Timeline:   

End of August 2014 – Solar field mowed and debris removed. Early September – Electric lines installed underground across the back of the school Mid-September – Steel framework is installed

    

October and November – Solar panels installed October and November – Upgrading electric equipment in school electric rooms November – New main connection line installed underground in front of building December – Solar field completed January or February – Once JCP&L gives final approval and regulatory inspections are complete we will flip a very big switch and start using solar power.

If you have questions about the field please contact David Bailey ([email protected]) or contact a Board Member. Photos of the field being built:
