Having it all is not about striving for perfection, or about living our lives according to someone else’s standards or expectations (we’ve done that for far too long). It’s not about working ourselves to a state of exhaustion, spreading ourselves too thin, or trading inner peace and contentment for outer trinkets of success. Been there. Done that too. Having it all simply means having access to all of yourself, in any moment you choose it, and in every aspect of life that is important to you.

4 Questions with Christy Whitman
C:
How do you define your it and your all in your life?
Lisa
Bloom: growing up I remember having this thing called you can’t have your cake and eat it but I remember I don’t want a cake if I can’t eat it what’s the point it doesn’t make sense. So for me the big shift and understanding came when I had ambition in terms of my career and what I wanted to do and I also wanted a family. The big having it all meant I could do something I was passionate about that I would have a career and a profession but I could also have a family that was hugely important. If that meant making a sacrifice I wasn’t going to give up something but I wanted to do both have a fulfilling career and profession and also have a family and that for me is having it all.
C:
What is your core belief about yourself or the universe that allows you to have the experience of having it all?
Lisa
Bloom: I believe we actually create our reality we define our reality by the story we tell. So we have this basic human desire to tell our experience. We experience something that we tell the story and that’s almost how we make it real for ourselves and sometimes if we don’t tell we doubt it actually happened. So what happens is we tell the story and then that becomes our reality and we forget that we have pretty much created the story. So maybe there is a tiny percent that’s a fact but the rest is our interpretation and sometimes the stories are wonderful reasons we have it all and sometimes the stories don’t serve us so for me what’s in our control is the ability to create a really great empowering story the matter what the experience as and it’s not about painting a rosy color over everything it’s about really taking responsibility and telling a story that serves us. It means showing up and being vulnerable and admitting to painful experiences but doing so in a way that helps us be powerful and move forward and feel we can create something amazing which we can because it’s about interpreting the story.

C:
When you are in a place of having it all what is that bottom line essence feeling for you?
Lisa
Bloom: it’s really hard to describe in one word and the first word that came to me as you are saying mess I was thinking gratitude but I think gratitude is more a reaction to the feeling whereas the feeling itself is something deeper and it’s a peaceful feeling. It’s not necessarily that everything around me is peaceful but there is a core of peace within me. That’s the feeling everything is okay. Everything is perfect. Even if from the outside it feels like it’s not there, something core inside that says it’s okay it’s good.
C:
Can you offer one piece of advice to help them to get into that space of having it all?
Lisa
Bloom: so I want to share a little story. There was this King who was fascinated by the concept of peace and he wanted to own some peace so he sent out a notice to all of the kingdom that the artists who could paint the best picture of peace will be greatly rewarded. Lots of people tried and brought paintings of the palace and the King went through these painting because he wanted to find a perfect picture of peace and finally after much declaration he came down to the two that were the best and he needed to choose between them. So the first picture was on this beautiful clear Lake and the lake was a perfect reflection of the mountains around and about the mountains were fluffy white clouds and the blue sky everybody who saw it thought it was a perfect picture of peace. The second picture right beside it also had water and it had mountains the mountains were rugged and bear and there was rain and lightning and water was pounding down the mountain into a waterfall so it didn’t seem like a peaceful picture but when the king looks closely he so write down the waterfall was a rock and on the rock was a bush and in the bush was a mother bird and she sat on her and she looked like peace. So the king looked at both pictures and he chose the second picture and he said peace is not one everything is perfect peace, sometimes when it’s hard work and it’s difficult and there

is a great storm but there is peace in your heart. That’s the true nature of peace. The message for this from me and I come from Ireland which is where we struggle with peace and I live in the middle east which is struggling with peace and yet I’ve come to see that it’s not about going on around us the feeling of having it all and being able to keep that center and keep grounded and be the bird on the nest the matter what the storm was like around us that’s the core message.
