Committee Members: Bonnie Beechum (Diversity Sub-chair), Bob Juarez (Wheelchair Subchair), Sue Nelson (Special Populations Sub-Chair), and John Terpkosh (TSR) Diversity report: Diversity events around the district June 6 – Davenport, Tennis Block Party hosted by United Neighbors Wheelchair report: Wheelchair events around the district March 28 – Cedar Rapids, Eastern Iowa Adaptive Sports Clinic hosted by SportAbility of Iowa June 20 – Cedar Falls, UNI Adaptive Camp (tennis day) hosted by SportAbility of Iowa September 12 – Bettendorf, 3rd Annual QCAASA Wheelchair Tournament Special Populations report: Special Population events around the district May 21-22 – Ames, SOI Summer Games (tennis days) hosted by Special Olympics Iowa First year SOI switched to ROGY format and skills with great success, one day for singles, one day for doubles play June 20-21 – Overland Park KS, Fred Johnson All Star hosted by MV Section and KC Buddies Teams from Iowa District were: Davenport, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids Iowa All Stars Since the Missouri Valley grants are dwindling for their annual event, there is a need to sponsor an annual Iowa All Stars event. The tentative plans are to make it: o A one day event in late July/August/early September on a Saturday o At North Scott High School’s tennis courts in Eldridge, IA o 50-70 athletes, 15-20 coaches o Use USTA officials o Ball people from North Scott High School teams o Event will provide: t-shirts, snacks, lunch, ice/water, medals for 1st/2nd/3rd places, ribbons for 4th-8th places, ROGY balls, name tags, registration materials Recommended Proposed Committee Budget for 2016: $2,735.00 (Diversity $500, Wheelchair $1,000, Special Populations $1,235)
