Reader’s Workshop: We are continuing our nonfiction Polar Animals unit. This unit focuses on nonfiction texts. Students are learning about the nonfiction text features that are commonly found in informational books. They are also working on identifying the main topic and details in a text, making connections between texts on the same topic, drawing conclusions and identifying the author’s purpose. The Common Core Standards addressed in this unit will be: RI K. 1 With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details RI K.2 With prompting and support, identify the main topic and retell key details of a text RI K.3 With prompting and support, describe the connection between two individuals, events, ideas, or pieces of information in a text. RI K.8 With prompting and support, identify the reasons an author gives to support points in a text RI K.9 With prompting and support, identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same topic Writer’s Workshop:
We are continuing our informational writing unit on Polar Animals. Students are learning
about topics to become experts and will be writing informational pieces using content specific vocabulary, complete sentences, and accurate drawings/representations of the topic. The Common Core Standards addressed in this unit will be: WK.2 Using a combination of drawing, dictating and writing, to compose informative/ explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic. W K.7 Participate in shared research and writing projects Math: K-1& K-2: We are finishing up our subtraction unit and focusing on “how many more?” Then we will begin our new math unit on comparing numbers. The Common Core Standards addressed in this unit will be: The common core standards addressed will be: K.CC.3- I can write the numbers from 0-20
I can write the numeral for the number of objects I counted
K.CC4a-I can say the number as I count each object
K.CC4b-I can understand the last number I said is the total number of objects I counted
K.CC4c-I can understand that each number name is one more than the last number name
K.CC.5-I can count objects to answer questions
Math K-3 & K-4: We are beginning a new unit which will focus on subtraction. We will be working on expressing subtraction as “taking apart” a number, writing number sentences and finding the missing numbers in subtraction expressions. KOAA1: Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images, drawings, sounds KOAA2: Solve addition and subtraction word problems and add and subtraction within 10 KOAA5: Fluently add and subtract within 5
Social Studies Unit 2: Self and Others: We will continue to learn about ourselves, the world and other cultures.

Donate pajamas to wear pajamas on Pajama Day!
Any notes for teachers can be sent in your child’s homework folder. Please check homework folders every night. Take out notices and class work daily.
There is a mandatory uniform policy. Please make sure your child is dressed in dark/ navy bottoms and white tops daily.
Children are required to wear sneakers to Gym (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays)
Each day the Kindergarten has a designated snack time. Snacks should be easy and healthy. Please do NOT send in anything that contains nuts. We have some students with NUT ALLERGIES.
READ every night with and to your child for at least 20 minutes. Students should long onto I-ready at least 3 times per week and complete lessons If you have any questions/ concerns please feel free to contact us. We are here to help!
