Enroute we will drive to Beer Sheva and stop at the visitor center of Abraham's Well. Drive to the Dead Sea and check into your hotel located on the Dead Sea. Take a dip in one of the hotel pools before dinner or relax at the beach. Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D) Overnight: Dead Sea, Israel Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Thursday, May 03, 2018 After breakfast we will make our way to Masada and take the cable car to the mountain top fortress. Here Arie will treat us to the history of the famous zealot stand. We will tour the excavated synagogue, ritual bath house, food storage and much more.
After our tour we proceed to Ein Gedi, "Spring of the Goat", an oasis on the western shore of the Dead Sea. Because of its warm climate and abundant supply of water, the site developed a reputation for its fragrant plants and date palm groves. This is where King David hid from Saul and where God defeated the enemies of the Israelites by praise and worship led by King Jehoshaphat. We will return to our hotel with time to enjoy the services of our hotel before dinner. (B,D) Overnight: Dead Sea, Israel Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Friday, May 04, 2018 After breakfast we will take leave of Dead Sea, driving north along the shoreline to the Qumran Caves, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Your visit to the site begins with the screening of a film on the history of Qumran. From the hall, you will continue to a small museum illustrating the way of life at Qumran. The visit then continues along the path to the site itself, following the route of the aqueduct that collected the floodwater from Nachal Qumran. We now make our way up to Jerusalem and stop for a panoramic view of the city from the Mt. of Olives. See Mount Moriah and the Dome of the Rock from atop the Mount of Olives and then the Garden of Gethsemane. Walk between the ancient olive trees, and read the scriptures of Jesus' prayer and take time for personal reflection in this important place. Next we visit the House of Caiaphas where Jesus was beaten and spit upon. See a pit where he may have been held for the evening and the ancient hillside steps he walked as he was taken to be condemned. We will make our way to our hotel. This evening we will be dining at the home of a Anglo Saxon orthodox family and enjoy their Shabbat dinner with them. Overnight Jerusalem. (B,D) Overnight: Jerusalem, Israel Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Saturday, May 05, 2018 After breakfast we will make our way to Christ Church at Jaffa Gate for Saturday morning Messianic worship. After services we will make our way to visit the "Upper Room" just outside the Zion Gate where the disciple whom Jesus loved laid his head on His breast and where later Thomas cried, "my Lord & my God." See the Tomb of King David which is located right under the Room of the Last Supper. Continue to the St. Stephen's or Lion's Gate where we will enter the Old City and begin our walk along the Via Dolorosa. First we will stop at St. Ann's Church and the Pools of Bethesda. Continue along the Stations of the Cross-Way of the Sorrow arriving to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Continue through the Arab Shuk and make your way to Jaffa Gate. Return to your hotel for dinner and then we will make our way to Jaffa Gate and Tower of David Museum to see the Sound & Light Show. Return to your hotel for overnight. (B,D) Overnight: Jerusalem, Israel Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Sunday, May 06, 2018 After breakfast we will enter the Old City through the Jewish Quarter. We will then walk along the Cardo, an ancient Roman road as we view the four Sephardic synagogues restored after the 1967 war in the city's Jewish Quarter. Continue to the The Temple Institute which is dedicated to all aspects of the Divine commandment for Israel to build a house for G-d's presence, the Holy Temple, on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem. Walking down the steps we will make our way to the Kotel Plaza. No tour of Jerusalem would be complete without a visit to the Western Wall Tunnel, also known as the Kotel Tunnel, which runs the full length of the Wall and was built in 19 BCE. From here we will make our way to the Davidson Center-Southern Wall Excavations. This southern side of The Temple was the main entrance for the
common folk, whereas the Priests and Levites had their own entrance from the higher eastern side. Parts of the giant stairs, which led to the Temple Mount from the courtyard, have been unearthed, along with the purification pools. From here Jesus entered the Temple Mount and drove out the vendors and money exchangers who were exploiting the people. It is also likely that this is the place that Peter stood and preached and where thousands were saved and baptized on the Day of Pentecost. It is time to return to the hotel after awesome day spent in the Old City. Dinner and overnight. (B,D) Overnight: Jerusalem, Israel Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Monday, May 07, 2018 Breakfast at your hotel. Arie will make the correlation between the Old City that we visited this week and the Old City as it was during the time of Jesus. Visit the Shrine of the Book where the Dead Sea Scrolls are on display before we make our next stop which is the Memorial to the Six Million Jewish people killed during the Holocaust at the Yad Vashem Memorial Museum. This afternoon we will drive back into the city for a visit to the Friends of Zion Heritage Center, dedicated to the Christian Community World Wide. Here you will meet the biblical figures, academics, businessmen, and military officials who, through their faith, have forged an everlasting bond between the Jewish and Christian peoples. We close our day at the Garden Tomb with a tour and then communion. Return to your hotel. Dinner and overnight. Like Jericho, it has been almost continuously occupied throughout history. After defeating Saul and his sons on Mt. Gilboa, the Philistines hanged their bodies on the walls of Beit-Shean. During the time of Jesus, Scythopolis was one of the chief cities of the Decapolis - a league of ten cities sharing Greek culture and government. Continue up to the Sea of Galilee and drive around the lake to tour the site of Tabgha, where Jesus performed the miracle of the loaves and fishes. Stop for lunch of St. Peter's Fish at a lakeside restaurant before continuing to Capernaum. View the excavations of the seaside village and Peter's home, followed by a visit to Magdala, home town of Mary Magdalene. As our brochure indicates, our tour schedule is a full one. People who travel with us must be in good health. Sometimes our guests just take a day off! We want our travelers to experience Israel as it is lived out in the lives of the people who live there today. We want to see it through their eyes as well as through the lens of Scripture and history. We believe the modern nation of Israel—both the land and the people—cannot be separated from biblical roots; both Old and New Testaments. The Church is grafted into those roots. Therefore, our Bibles are our traveling companions. We will have some optional evening programs to acquaint our travelers with active ministries in Israel. It is always a highlight for us to meet fellow believers who live and work in the Land. Preparatory classes will be offered to acquaint our travelers with aspects of history, both biblical and post-biblical, that will enable a better understanding of our experience together. These will take place about 6-8 weeks before departure.
A Word about additional costs: • •
Please consider purchasing travel insurance. The information is listed on your brochure. The reason we collect tip monies before the trip is twofold: We feel people should be adequately compensated for their service, plus, tipping abroad when traveling with a group can become very arbitrary and confusing. We collect all tip monies before we leave so that our travelers do not need to tip at all. In Israel, the going rates are: $8 per day per person for our Israeli guide; $3 per day per person for our bus driver; $3 per day for hotel staff and $2 per person per hotel stay for portage. The Gate1 website confirms that these amounts are appropriate. In addition, single tips are appropriate for a few individual site guides. Funds for tipping ($225 per person) will be due four weeks before departure, either by cash or by check. Pastor Chuck has asked John Stucki to be the “keeper of the purse.” John and a willing, designated traveler will affirm together that tip monies are correctly dispersed. Please get your tip monies to John by April 1.
