Brooklyne Mason Commits to Campbell University “My goal is to start as a freshman and try to make an impact on the team” said Brooklyne Mason of Middletown’s Women’s Soccer Team. On March 1st, 2013 Mason accepted a scholarship from Campbell University, a Division 1 school in North Carolina. As a member of the Big South Conference, Campbell competes with, among other schools, the Virginia Military Institute, Liberty University and Radford University. “I’m nervous. It’s going to be tough. I just have to work hard to be able to play.” said Mason whose impressive athletic career includes being in the top 10 GMC offensive players three years in a row and a position on the Olympic Development Program’s state team in 2010 and 2011. Her decision to play at Campbell was not an easy one. “I was kind of discouraged because a lot of the schools were full and I wanted to play in a competitive league. Division 2 Schools made me offers and I was looking into Tiffin University in Ohio but when I went to Campbell I just wanted to go there. It’s a beautiful school,” Mason said “It’s going to be scary being away and being by myself for the first time in my life. But I’m excited.” Athletics are not Mason’s only strong suit. Her academic record is equally exceptional. Obtaining GMC All-Academic three years in a row, she plans to study sports management. “I would love to coach collegiate soccer,” she said, “That would be an ideal job for me.” Mason committed as a center midfielder for the Fighting Camels and officially reports to the team in the summer of 2014. “I’m excited. It’s my dream – it’s always been my dream.” ...by Patrick Venturella
