Seeking God  Serving Others  Loving All

January 31, 2018 Newsletter Dear Bearer of the Good News,

You are invited: please join us for a baby shower and time of fellowship on Sunday, February 11, 3:00-4:30 in the fellowship hall. We will be honoring Chelse Parsons (Mrs. Troy), daughter of Amy Owens (Mrs. Bobby). Baby Luke is expected to arrive later this month to join big sister Tully, who is 4 years old. Gift suggestions: gift cards, diapers (size 2 or up), baby wipes, bottles, bath items. Hope you can join us! A Note of Thanks: Lib Revels would like to thank everyone for their prayers over this past year. The Lord has answered and she is healed from her depression! Praise the Lord!

We extend sincere Christian sympathy to Amy Owens and her family in the death of her father, Jerry Lingerfelt on Tuesday, January 23rd.

First, I would like to thank Jessica and our Youth for leading us last Sunday in a God-inspired service. I am grateful for your faithfulness to God and your love and witness to the community as you reached out to the upper Cleveland County area last weekend. May you continue to grow as disciples and be bearer of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Weekends like above hopefully not only inspire us but challenge us to dig deeper. Do you ever have thoughts about your purpose here on earth? You may ask the Lord or discuss with a friend the question of why He made you a certain way. I believe all of us want to make a difference in other’s lives in some positive way. So the question becomes: “Why do we do what we do?” The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Corinthians begins to explain what he believes is his God-ordained purpose. Here is a man, who as a Pharisee, thought he was following the living God through the Law yet he was persecuting Christians. Formerly known as Saul, he was one of the leaders in the Jewish community and was observing God’s laws to the nth degree, yet could not fulfil them as God intended for Paul; nor could God’s chosen people. Paul needed help; he needed to be saved from himself. Isn’t this true for all of us? Paul met the Lord Jesus on a road called Damascus and his life was forever changed. It is here Paul was saved from himself and it was where he discovered his Godordained purpose. Paul, like us, had a lot of critics, yet He kept His eyes focused on Jesus. In his defense of the gospel, he began to explain his actions and the purpose behind them. Come join us as we explore the message, “Why do I do What I do?” I look forward as we unravel God’s ordained plan for our lives and discover our destiny as God’s people. Blessings! (1 Corinthians 9:16-23) Yours In Christ, Rick

Please note time changes for activities this Sunday!

Volunteers Needed! The Cleveland County Abuse Prevention Council is getting ready to move into their new facility and need some folks, particularly folks with trucks, to assist in moving their offices and some shelter furniture. Two moving dates are scheduled: February 10th and February 17th, both from 9am until late afternoon. All moving will be within Shelby. If any church groups or individuals are interested in assisting in the move, please contact Cathy Robertson at 704-487-9325

During the weeks to come, the Prayer Committee would like to share some truths about prayer that were taught by Dr. Alice Cullinan at the GCC Baptist Association. Also, copies of her devotional guide “Prayer: The Christian’s Anchor and Lifeline” are available in the prayer room off the front vestibule if you would like to pick up a copy.

“Unconfessed sin blocks our relationship with God; hence, the effectiveness of prayer is negatively affected by sin and disobedience. And we must never forget that this also means the importance of granting forgiveness to those who have wronged us.”
