This Sunday, January 28th!

Hello Church, Jeff and I would like to report that we survived Winter Retreat 2018! We started the weekend with eight students and ended it with the same eight! No injuries or ER visits, nor did we witness any police chases (recall our summer camp adventure). We spent this past weekend at Lawndale Baptist Church for a DNOW (Discipleship Now) event. There were at least three local churches involved. Along with the other students and leaders, we spent our time worshipping, playing, and participating in mission work. We traveled all over Cleveland County: from Christine’s Home to The Pregnancy Resource Center; in a laundry mat to local nursing homes. We had a group that babysat while others went to pray for the community. Some cleaned apartments. Some played with babies. Some vacuumed. Others raked leaves. But I can assure you every person was doing the work of the Kingdom and I know God was smiling. These types of events are not just wonderful for our youth, but for the leaders as well. I was rejuvenated to remember why our callings are so important. We all have a part to play. While we were working with the kids, the praise team was practicing. While the praise team practiced, the cooking team prepared our meals. While they were preparing our meals, the speaker was prepping his message. It took us all. This week we are going to look at the story of Lazarus and how we can be alive and still roaming around in the grave. How we can know truth, but until we “COME” to His call, we will never stand in the Light. We are going to learn how to take the promises of God, apply them intentionally to our lives, move into the Light, and live BIG LIVES! In the book of Ephesians Paul says, “Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.” I ask you to join me in prayer for this Sunday’s service as the youth lead and participate. We are excited and ready to serve! ~Jessica Lance

Congratulations to Wayne and Kathy Everett on the birth of their first grandchild and to GreatGrandmother, Shirley Steelman! Finley Grace Ethington January 23rd, 2:15 am 6 pounds 2 ounces, 19” long Mother and daughter are doing well.

As we were reminded Sunday during the offertory prayer, prayer is an act of service and worship. During the weeks to come, the Prayer Committee would like to share some truths about prayer that were taught by Dr. Alice Cullinan at the GCC Baptist Association. Also, copies of her devotional guide “Prayer: The Christian’s Anchor and Lifeline” are available in the prayer room off the front vestibule if you would like to pick up a copy.

Kathy and Wayne would like to thank the Westview Family for their support as shown through the baby shower held in the Fellowship Hall.

“Prayer is not just learning to say certain words or phrases or to ask certain things. It is a relationship with God out of which will flow all kinds/types of prayer: praise, thanksgiving, petition, confession, intercession, etc.”
