Size U.S. J/10 (6mm) crochet hook. Colored paper, plastic plate or cardboard (such as shoe box). Paint (optional if paper plate is already colored). Felt pen. Hole punch. Scissors.
GAUGE Not applicable.
INSTRUCTIONS Cut a 4"/10cm circle from a paper plate. Paint circle if desired. Punch holes around the edge approximately .5”/1.25cm apart. Cut a piece of cardboard 3"/7.5cm wide (length doesn't matter). Using 2 colors of yarn, wrap the yarn around the cardboard about 50 times. Cut the yarn off the cardboard. There will be about fifty 6"/15cm pieces. Repeat Steps 5 & 6 twice so there are about 150 pieces of yarn. Pull out 6 pieces of yarn and fold in half. Insert crochet hook from the back of a hole to the front. Lay the yarn fold across the hook and pull the hook and yarn to the back. Pull it far enough that you can get your fingers in the loop. Reach through the loop and pull the yarn ends through. Pull the knot tight against the circle edge. Repeat this for every hole around the circle. Tighten all the knots. Trim the yarns evenly to about 1.5 (4cm).
Draw a smiley, flower or lion face on the circle using a felt pen. Cut 2 pieces of yarn 12"/30.5cm long. Loop them through a hole at the top of the circle. Tie in a knot for hanging. Sunshine Using a yellow or orange plate, Lemonade and Neon Orange yarn, follow Steps 1-11. Draw a smiley face as pictured. Flower Using a yellow or orange plate, Neon Pink and Neon Coral yarn, follow Steps 1-11. Draw a flower face as pictured. Lion Using a yellow or orange plate, Autumn Maize and Chocolate yarn, follow Steps 1-11. Draw a lion face as pictured.
