11 December 2015 Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome to the final newsletter of 2015; where has this year gone!? Before I begin to talk about the Christmas events that have taken place over the last two weeks I would like you to cast your minds back to an event I mentioned in my last newsletter…Junior Justdance; a dance competition in which twelve of our Key Stage 2 children took part. I was lucky enough to attend the competition in support of the children and was stunned by the magnitude of the event and the incredible dancing of the Lark Rise children. The team were able to confidently ‘strut their stuff’ in front of over one thousand people for the charity event (all proceeds went to Keech Hospice Care) and we were all delighted when they were awarded a sparkly, disco ball trophy for being the winners in their category. I wanted to say a huge well done to all of the children and the staff (Miss Williams and Miss Branscombe) who trained and looked after them, as well as the parents and carers who supported the event. A great day out was had by all! Since then I have had a super time watching more performances from the rest of the children in the school. I am sure you would agree that the children have excelled themselves in their Christmas shows and I have been amazed (as always) by their confidence, enthusiasm and talent. The performances have certainly made me feel festive and it was lovely to see so many of you when you came along to see the children. Well done to all of the children for their excellent participation and a huge thank you to the staff for supporting the children so well! Over the past fortnight I have also enjoyed so many other events and activities too; it is lovely to be in school with the children at this very special time of year. Carols around the Christmas tree in Dunstable town centre is a particular favourite of mine (thank you to all the children who joined me for this special event and to those of you who stood in the cold to listen to the fabulous singing and a visit from Santa!) Whilst all of the festivities at Lark Rise have been taking place, there has also been a lot of work going on behind the scenes. A review of the children’s progress and their advancement towards their targets has been a delight. It is clear that the children have been working hard and I am delighted with all they have achieved already. Well done to all for a great start to this academic year! Looking forward to 2016, it was lovely to talk with some of you at the Parents/Carers’ Forum this week to discuss matters relating to the year ahead and to meet with the children and their Mummies and Daddies who will be joining the Nursery soon. How exciting! Finally (and in case I do not get another chance), I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year. I hope that you have a wonderful time with your incredible children during the Christmas break and I look forward to seeing you all when we return for the Spring Term in 2016. Yours faithfully Rebecca Baker Headteacher PS You may have heard that I recently enjoyed eating lunch with a small group of children at the first ever ‘Headteacher’s Top Table’ event; thank you to Lucas, Ruby, Angelina, Joseph, Joshua, Nathan and Nathan for joining me and making my lunchtime so lovely and to the fabulous kitchen staff for looking after us and serving our dinner to our table. How posh! The kitchen staff chose children to sit with me for lots of different reasons; for example, for being consistently polite or trying new foods. I am really looking forward to next time the ‘top table’ happens…I am assured it will be once every half term. Fabulous!
