LCEF Awards First Young Investor’s Club Scholarships Lutheran Church Extension Fund recently announced the winners of the first Young Investor’s Club Scholarships awarded to Y.I. Club members. Natasha Lawrence a high school senior from Wichita Heights High School took second place nationally in the competition with her short essay on “Second Chances”. In doing so, she picked up a $1,000 scholarship for college. Natasha plans to attend Pittsburg State University pursuing a degree in Graphic Design. It’s not too early to be thinking of next year’s competition if you’ll be a graduating high school senior. As Natasha’s mother said, “We didn’t know anything about Y.I. Club until January when two men came and spoke to our church. Natasha joined Y.I. Club and entered the competition, and we’re very happy that she won.” Scholarship competition will take place each Spring for the $3,000, $1,000 or $500 scholarships. In addition to college scholarship opportunities, Y.I. Club also features a premium interest rate (currently 3.5%) on the first $1,000 deposited into an account. Age-appropriate quarterly newsletters, plus opportunities to earn up to $25 per year for A’s and another $25 per year for ten hours of volunteer community service give members added benefits. Y.I. Club is for youth ages 0-18 and is a custodial account that can be started with as little as $25. Y.I.
