Marie Herman CAP-OM, ACS Marie Herman CAP-OM, ACS has over twenty years of experience as an Administrative Professional and Efficiency Consultant. Ms. Herman has conducted many workshops at the IAAP International Education Forum and Annual Meetings on topics ranging from developing a strong website to leading a strategic planning workshop to organization tips. She also facilitates workshops with chapters and divisions and provides email mentoring and is a regular contributor on the IAAP HQ web community (a wonderful member resource that is vastly underutilized). She has authored several articles for the Technology Tips column on the international DeskDemon site (http://www.deskdemon.com). In addition, her articles have been published in many newsletters and magazines, including an article in the February 2013 issue of OfficePro on “Set and Achieve Your Goals.” Marie served as the 2012-2013 President of the Illinois Division of IAAP. Marie is a charter member of the Two Rivers Chapter in Naperville, Illinois. This chapter grew from 19 members at charter in 2004 to just under 100 members at present. The Two Rivers Chapter has received many awards, including Distinguished Chapter President awards and Chapter of Excellence. They were the 2006 winner of the Avery Dennison Chapter and Division Great Results contest with the Prestige Award of $3,000 and the 2005 and 2007 Pioneer Award winners. Previously, Marie was the charter President of the Golden Corridor Chapter (Schaumburg, Illinois) which grew from 22 to 70 members in just three years after it chartered. Ms. Herman is a Distinguished Chapter President and past Webmaster for the Illinois Division of IAAP. Marie has written many ebooks to assist chapters, and she hosts regular inter-chapter brainstorming chats with about 100 IAAP chapters and divisions from around the world. She also has numerous PowerPoint presentations and articles on computer tips, strategic planning workshops and more that she offers free for other chapters to use. She launched MRH Enterprises to provide executives with customized organizational systems, honed computer skills, and mentoring to teach these individuals how to create a more effective working relationship with their administrative professionals. Her extensive technical background includes training, project management, contracts administration, web page design, and other administrative responsibilities. Her latest project includes working on a book for working more effectively with Microsoft Office and pursuing Registered Parliamentarian certification. She previously taught computer classes at the Oswegoland Park District and conducts individual computer tutoring. She has an Associate’s Degree in Business and is a Certified Internet Webmaster Designer. In addition to being a Certified Administrative Professional with an organizational management specialty, Ms. Herman is also a Microsoft Office Specialist, certified at the Master level on Office 2010 and earlier versions. By day she works at Fermilab, a National Accelerator Laboratory, supporting the Head of the Technical Division.

This program will help you to get beyond feeling like a small cog in a big machine and discover new ways of encouraging your employer to consider your skills in a new light. We’ll discuss critical thinking skills and suggest methods to become more of a partner to your boss and company. We’ll explore how you can expand your role into new areas and develop new skills (but more importantly new approaches to your current job). You’ll get a better understanding of the different perspectives you can bring to your job to solve problems and become a more valued employee in the process. During this session, you’ll: • Discover new ways to show your employer you are capable of taking on new roles • Develop your critical thinking skills • Find better ways to build a partnership with your boss

This session will walk us through the many ways we can utilize social media for career advancement – from networking to job searching to skills development and more. We’ll discuss the pros and cons of social media as it relates to your professional development. Learn how you can take full advantage of this technology and communication style to enhance your career. During this session, you’ll: • Discover how to maximize your use of social media to benefit your career • Share suggestions for what and how to post, as well as what not to post • Identify red flags that indicate you are not utilizing your social media enough

Top Ten Tips and Tricks for Office 2010 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Attendees will learn about some of the most useful features within Microsoft Office – from advanced find and replace options to styles, SmartArt and macros to conditional formatting, data validation filters and more. There’s something for every administrative professional to take back to the office.
