Deals Gateway: A Campaigning Success! Deal’s Gateway may get back its dedicated green light! So, after months and months of emails, meetings, discussions, even videos made by us to prove beyond a doubt just how dangerous was TfL’s decision to make Greenwich High Rd and Trying to cross the A2 at Deal’s Gateway Deal’s Gateway share a green signal, TfL announced yet another consultation on changes to this junction. They have already tried to modify the junction since their initial changes. But the junction still wasn’t safe. The latest consultation finally includes a proposal to restore the green light for traffic emerging from Deal’s Gateway, a measure we have been asking for since it was first removed. We are pleased about this. It will make the junction so much safer for all traffic, drivers as well as people cycling. It’s just a shame it took TfL so long to see that local people were right after all and that it’s wrong to prioritise increasing traffic flows on major through routes like the A2, over the safety of local people in their own area. Yes, we accept these roads are important for the functioning of our busy city. But the needs, wishes and safety of local people must also be considered as important and taken into serious account. And not before time. I rode through there twice last week and on both occasions had drivers turn right across my right of way, forcing me to swerve and pause, to let them go first. Please go to the consultation site and let them know how important it is to restore this dedicated green to Deal’s Gateway here. The website address is Twitter @lewicyclists Email:

Upcoming Rides and Events
Our rides meeting, when we plan the rides programme for the following month, with Greenwich and Bromley Cyclists, is held in the Dog and Bell pub in Prince St Deptford on the last Wednesday of the month at 6.30pm We are planning rides every weekend, some out to Kent, Essex and the other home counties. These tend to be longer rides. At least once a month, more in the summer, we try and include a shorter London based easier ride. We have a Kent ride on the 28th February and a Surrey hills ride on the 7th March. We also meet up for a short ten mile ride every other Tuesday, which ends in a different Lewisham pub each time. The next one is on the 24th February. We always meet on the corner opposite le Delice café in Ladywell for this ride. Our drop in bike workshop sessions also begin in March. Dates for March and April are Grove Park Community Centre (Ringway) 268 Baring Rd, SE12 0DS.
